Have made my scope wireless to a computer inside by using a PC stick. So remote desktop control of the PC stick
I want to use astrotoaster as it does much nicer stretching etc for the stacked image. I'm taking in FITS files with sharpcap, then stacking in AT. The trouble is that all my images are coming out as b/w when I use AT (or DSS) on the PC stick. If I transfer the raw FITS files to my main PC and use astrotoaster on it, the files come out in colour? Is there some DSS or AT setting that I'm doing wrong on the PC stick?
I'm using the newer version 3.3.4 (3.3.2 won't work with my raw files).
Edit: It must be a DSS issue. I've tried stacking the FITS files with DSS. When DSS opens them it says the are grayscale images ??

I dont have any answers for you Chris, just a few questions on your setup. What software do you use to control sharpcap from your desktop ? What is the quality of that image like? Is astrotoaster on the desktop ? Paul

Chris, the reason I ask is that I am desktop controlling a remote laptop but am not happy with the image quality on the control software. Both computers are hard wired to the home network I dont have a PC stick but remote desktop control a laptop in a skyshed pod from a bungalow about 5 metres away. I use teamviewer and the desktop image is disappointing.I aim to transfer the files to astrotoaster on a second desktop screen . So sharpcap is on the laptop and astrotoaster is on the desktop. Will astrotoaster be able to stack over the network? I have only used astrotoaster to stretch existing images and have been very impressed but havent used it to stack as yet. Paul

I figured the lack of colour. I hadn't set up the debayering for raw images in the settings.

Image quality Some have said teamviewer isn't great, I haven't tried it. I use RDPWRAP. Control sharpcap on the stick from my pc inside. That might help image quality. Also image quality will deteriorate if your wifi isn't strong enough. It looks like it doesn't refresh as fast and is grainier ? The wifi on the stick isn't great. I got one of these (from MWAVE) and it fixed it up. Edimax AC600 Wi-Fi Dual-Band High Gain USB Adapter. My home network is AC, so what you get depends on your network. The main thing is to get one with the antenna - I think ...
Stacking I always have sharpcap on the stick. I also have PHD2 running on the stick. I get in the image and do the dark/flat correction in sharpcap. Lately I have been using astrotoaster because its live image processing is way better. I'll stick up some comparisons later. So I just do captures in sharpcap and then stack/process in astrotoaster. I should try firecapture, maybe that will be easier ?
I've been swapping between having astrotoaster on the stick and stacking locally; and getting sharpcap to save over wifi onto my PC and using astrotoaster on that. If you are using a small camera then it doesn't matter as astrotoaster will cope. I've had problems with the ASI071 - the unbinned raw files are huge and can take a 30-60sec to stach each frame on my pc and minute or to stack each frame on the stick.
I'm still fumbling around with this. The best is to follow the Howie route and save each sub in the smallest simplest format so astrotoaster isn't too overloaded. Sharpcap only saves raw or pngs. I've just been using raws as I'm also saving multiple subs for non-astrovideo post-processing. Been having fun with startools (Davy's fault for putting up that link)

Well that was a waste of a Sunday afternoon. Couldnt get laptop Sharpcap to output to a file on the desktop and couldnt get desktop astrotoaster to import from a file on the laptop despite the settings on each program indicating they should . Too hard basket! I will keep both programs on the laptop and control both on teamviewer on the desktop and still keep warm this winter. Paul

Just check each computer can see each other on the network first. Then it's just a matter of choosing the file location in sharpcap \\network/etc.
I'll put up a screen shot tomorrow. Had AT working nicely tonight on sharpcap images saved over the home wifi.
But having big problems with light artefacts on my newt!!!

Thanks Chris Yes, all the computers at home are hard wired and read each other over the network. I could not get either sharpcap or AS to output/input to a location on another computer on the network despite the settings indicating that they should. I had to manually copy sharpcap output across the network and then import to AS...no point in that. The reason for wanting to do it this way is to have sharpcap controlled through teamviewer on screen 1 and AS on screen 2 on the desktop and sharpcap and AS talking to each other over the network. It has worked for you so I will give it another crack in a few days time.

Yes it should work like that. The first time I tried it I don't think it worked. But it does now and I'm not sure how I changed it.

I figured the lack of colour. I hadn't set up the debayering for raw images in the settings. Whew, glad to see you sorted it out Chris. Been offline for several days .... finishing off my backyard reno, then did a coffee n cars rally on the Sunshine Coast, and as if I hadnt had enough driving then drove up to Clermont in Central Queensland to visit daughter and partner up here. Back online now. Should be doing some EAA tonight if its clear. Last night was beaut but after finishing the rally and getting home Sunday night, then getting 6 hours sleep before a 13 hour drive up to Clermont I was too shagged to setup despite wonderful dark skies and zero clouds. So hopefully good skies tonight. cheers all Howie (the Aussie one!)
