Nicely done Rick. Those last few look ghostly with the faint gas wafting through space. The second to last is M78 which is a reflection nebula. I want to spend more time with that one now that I've read up on it a little. The last one is a couple starts in the Pleiades. It's the first time I've caught that nebulosity around them.

Nice to see someone doing H-alpha here. Looks great ! Thanks Chris! I really enjoy it - a long time to get there but I'm happy with it. Eventually I want to replace that interlaced camera with something different - sensitive & mono and maybe a bigger sensor. But this works for now. Works great for broadcasting and outreach. Next is a color camera upgrade.

Do you have to do anything special to get Facebook Live working? I've seen some accounts have it but mine doesn't appear to.

Great shots Rick. What would you say is the increase in exp time you have to use with the Ha filter on compared to not on?
Cheers

Do you have to do anything special to get Facebook Live working? I've seen some accounts have it but mine doesn't appear to. Oops I'm a duffer! Just noticed you said Facebook Live. I'm behind the times as I only just learned how to broadcast live on YouTube! Hence I posted up the instructions for that LOL Might help someone though ... to live stream on YouTube though. I dont know how to use Facebook Live. How to setup and use Youtube live streaming... * Nav to your youtube page. * Up above your banner, you should see how many subscribers and views and then to the right of that you should see Video Manager. Click that. * The layout of the page which follows, has a menu down the left hand side, starting with Dashboard, then under that Video Manager, then under that Live Streaming. Click that * The first time you go in you should see Setup Live Streaming. Click that and it takes you to a page which shows your Youtube accounts status and if you have any black marks against you for copyright, of complaints from viewers and such. If it says Your account is in good standing, then it should have a button/checkbox to enable Live Streaming. Click that. * Then navigate back into Video Manager, and Live Streaming and you should see two options under Live Streaming ... Stream Now and Events. ***** So here's the trick ..... if you want to just start streaming without downloading and installing any specialist streaming software (makes life MUCH easier to not have to do that), then you click Events. It allows you within Events to have a Quick streaming method which simply allows you to use you internet connection to stream your desktop, or a window on your desktop, or your webcam. It uses the webcam microphone to pickup both the audio from any Window you are streaming, or you talking, or both at the same time. No specialist streaming software necessary. Its under "Type" on the Events page and says "Quick (uses Google Hangouts on Air) or something like that. Within the Events page you can set up a future event ... or tell it to stream now. And it saves your stream automatically in your Youtube account. Up to 8 hours in a single video of your stream is allowed! Of course if you wish to add special effects, or have multiple cameras and sound sources and do really fancy streams, then download specialist streaming software ... the Stream Now option under Live Streaming has suggestions and handy help within it telling you how to set all that up and list of streaming software both free and for purchase. I tried OBS and looked at a few videos for other software but man, figuring out what all the sliders do, and such ... too much for me. The video I made is nearly ready to go ... should be posted by the time you read all this. Here is the link ... Cheers

Great shots Rick. What would you say is the increase in exp time you have to use with the Ha filter on compared to not on? Cheers We'll, not as much as I thought. I think that would be a good research subject and do side by side. With M42 I was at 8 secs 5 gain for the blown out shot to get the extended clouds. But M42 is bright and I was running 9.25" at f/2.3 so I am getting a lot of light. It's hard to do with the hyperstar because the filter screws inside, but I can do it.

Do you have to do anything special to get Facebook Live working? I've seen some accounts have it but mine doesn't appear to. Ok, found how to do it on Facebook. You are supposed to stream to it using 'proper' live streaming software ... such as OBS. But I also found a video on the web using the easy to use Google Hangouts Window to do it ... no downloads nor setup necessary. I made my own 5 minute video in the link below to show it in use ... the method works really well apart from a 15 second lag between you doing something on your screen and it appearing on Facebook.

A delay ends up happening with OBS + the Plugin too - the method I use

Sincerest apologies, everyone. As I am getting setup for tonight, I opened my Hyperstar to pull the H-alpha narrowband filter and discovered that what was screwed in was the Lumicon Deep-Sky Filter.
OOOPS! If my camera was color, I would have known right off.
I've now put in the 7nm narrowband H-Alpha filter for tonight and I'll take some of the same pics and share and compare the exposure times with similar gain and histogram settings.

Easy mistake Rick. I have left one of those dark green Moon filters on my eyepieces several times and wondered why I couldn't see anything brighter than bright stars, for hours on end
