I took the scope out last night and grabbed a couple objects. This is with the Orion Skyview Pro (8") and the Ultrastar-C with an Optolong CLS-CCD filter. NGC 6781 (11x30s) NGC 7479 (7x30s) I wanted to try x2 binning on this one to see if it would bring out more detail. The arms are much more visible. NGC 7479 x2 bin (10x30s) NGC 7009 x2 Bin (18x5s) What's the best method for getting planetary nebula detail? It seemed like it was blown out no matter what I set. I tried bin 1 all the way down to 0.5 seconds but it was always over exposed. One interesting thing with my setup, since the screen capture method wasn't really working, I set up Astrotortilla to access APT (astrophotography tool) to do automatic plate solving. It supports talking to that software directly. I added an ASCOM driver for the Ultrastar-C which allows it to be used with APT. That seemed to work. What was interesting is that it didn't interfere with Starlight Live's ability to access the camera through it's API driver (while it was idle of course).

Look great Rob. What about lower camera gain. Or is that fixed on the ultrastar ?

It's fixed for the Ultrastar/Lodestar cameras. I have an ASCOM driver for it and looked once in Sharpcap but it didn't have a gain option for the Ultrastar either. Only Exposure settings.
I'm thinking it might need a filter of some type to knock down some of the light or restrict the incoming wavelength.
