I did a first light on my Orion Skyview Pro 8" newtonian scope last night (8", f/4.9). It's a real beast. Here's a shot of it with a dining room chair for scale. I had issues with the Ultrastar driver not wanting to load. I kept getting a "code 31" insufficient resources to load driver error. Plugging and unplugging the camera did nothing. Reboots did nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. Eventually it started working again. I'm not sure what caused that. I've seen it happen once before. I also gave Starsense a try out. I had set the time but forgot to set the location. As a result I was getting screwy skews. Once I remembered the location had to be set (it was set for Maryland), it started working fine although objects weren't exactly centered. I realized this morning that I didn't tighten the azimuth bolts so it'll need another test. I just did a standard auto align. I didn't add any calibration points yet. This morning, I also reflashed the Starsense hand controller so it has the latest version for my next time out. Once everything was set up, I only had about 45 minutes of observing. I took some shots of things I've already imaged just so I could compare the results: NGC 7139 10x30s NGC 7662 12x8s M13 4x30s M57 4x30s NGC 40 5x30s

You may find (as I did) that this becomes your most fav scope for EAA. I use the Skywatcher 200p 8" f/5 newt as my main rig ... IMO the 200mm f/5 newts are the best for EAA. Cheap, great results due f/5.0, and the 1000mm focal length is just about perfect for a variety of cams and extenders or reducers. My DSLR zooms via its liveview to allow 450x mag / 7 arcmins on planets yet still gives 45x mag / 1.3 degrees for wideview - all without changing scope or camera. As I bought the rig with a ST80 guidescope on it I sometimes leave that on, not for guiding, but insert the dslr into it to get widefield 17x mag / 3.5 deg FOV. Takes about 30 secs to swap out the camera from the 200p to the ST80 and you're away doing widefield. My fav scope (as you can tell by the gushing sentences above. Look forward to seeing you posting up your experiences with your newt! cheers
