Have been using a serial-bluetooth plugged into my nexstar. It can be a pain as have to plug into handcontroller and need extra power for it. Like this: Found a thread that said you can put a bluetooth adaptor inside a nexstar handcontroller. Got a tiny serial-bluetooth card (~15 x 35mm, TTL one not the larger RS232 type) for $7.60 on ebay. Soldered it into the handcontroller. - two wires at the top for power - two others into the TTL side of the max232 chip for the rx/tx. Just start up mount, run align and then run it all via skysafari with the bluetooth - range ~ 20m. No external bits. Its all in the handcontroller.

I was using a Bluetooth device a few years back,,got it from ebay it was called eqtooth ,you removed your handset from the mount and plugged in the eqtooth in its place,,yo them controlled your mount via stellarium or cartes de ceil..I tried it couple of months ago and could not get it to link,, that was a pity as my heq5 used the same rj plug as my eq3/ was a great set up on the eq3/2 took its power from the mount,,I think if you can use pin out diagram you could have the same by looks of it..great info

Congrats on a great mod! You got more nerve than me Chris. Everything I touch with a soldering iron ends up broke

Its the result of a long trail of destruction some i was about 10 or 12.
Want hard. There was a thread on CN about it and the circuit board is pretty simple.

What you had sounds a bit like the skyfi with celestron scopes. But it would have been better as skyportal is not a very good app. Stellarium and cartes should work with it as I've been able to connect it with ascom. So you had it working on the HEQ5, but it didn't work on the EQ3/2 ? I'll look it up and see if there's a way around it.

I think it just died,,never tried it on the heq5,as I could not pair it on the eq3 last time I tried it,,,,,there is one for sale on ebay JUST now 50 Euro..type in heq5 and you will come across it.I will give it another go before it gets stripped down to see how its made :-)

Thats pretty cool Davy, as along as you can read the spanish instructions, per favor. The skywatcher control setup seems better than the celestron stuff.
Most celestron bluetooth stuff still goes through the handcontroller. Except skyfi which replaces the handcontroller - but as I said its not a great app. But supposedly the new skysafari works with it.
Edit: I was going to say its expensive. But looking around at other similar stuff its OK for a bluetooth serial adaptor.
