While I was captivated by the election coverage tonight I let some stacking run for up to 30min. Here's one of them Trifid nebula. ZWO224MC, 80mm refractor f4 UHC filter. 20sec subs The first is 16x20s (5min) and the second 99x20s (33min)

Thanks Davy. I'm really proud of my polar alignment !! The frame hardly shifted over 30min.
The trifid speaks for itself.
And definitely looks like we have a hung parliament .... fun times ahead

Beautiful shots! That's quite a bit of difference between the 16 stack and the 99 stack. Is the 99 stack a continuation of the first or a new stack entirely?

Thanks Rob. Is a continuation. I just saved every now and then. Just wondered how much the snr would drop. It obviously does but as they say it only increases with sqrt (n). So from 16 - 99 snr increases by only 2.5x
The basic image was there by 1-2 min and noise dropped gradually.

Not insignificant though. I imagine stack to stack the difference you can see drops off considerably after the first 10 but yours shows it still makes a difference. It would interesting to see the quality as time goes on (like every 5 minutes or so).

Excellent Chris! The Trifid is one of my favorite objects -- in fact, it's often one that can easily demonstrate the advantages of Video Astronomy. I remember one outing last year where one guy had his 152mm Explore Scientific with 2" eyepiece on the trifid with no color, but I had color and dark nebula detail with my 80mm Orion triplet and my Jr. Pro.

Thanks. Yes it's ideal for video. Stack 100 >> 10.
Next stop 1000..... well anyway. Instead I'd like to try hdr stacking. It might help the diff between the red blue bits ?
I'll have to look at miloslick, or something else.
