I'm really enjoying my observatory. Of course one of the main benefits to having an observatory in the backyard is keeping all the equipment setup so it can used quickly. However I worry about long term deleterious effects on my mechanical, electronic, and optical equipment. After an observing session I remove the camera and store it in an eyepiece case, cap the openings on the scope, unplug all the cables, and close up the dome. The next day I dry out the equipment and then cap the scope back up. I typically don't put a cover over my scope and the roll-off-roof observatory is not air conditioned. I don't notice a lot of dust or bugs on my equipment but I do worry about my expensive equipment in the hot & humid environment of southeastern Louisiana. I recently read that someone in Florida had fungus to grow on some of the equipment in his observatory! Some people were recommending air conditioning or at least a dehumidifier in that environment but I don't have electricity wired to my observatory and a roll-off-roof is hard to seal. I would appreciate hearing people's practices for storing your equipment in their observatory between observing sessions. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

Although I don't have an observatory, I keep my equipment in my garage which can get quite hot and humid (Arkansas is just a hop, skip, & jump, after all). I have about 6 hard shell cases that have cameras & cords, these new things called eyepieces, and mount equipment. One of the things I have done to help ensure limited dust and residue is get these rubber caps (pic below) and then put them inside of ziplock plastic bags.
