Mallincam SSIc thru Orion 80EDT on Celestron AVX Mount. Baader Solar Continuum Filter. Still a lot of work to do to get exposures and gain balanced to give a better overall exposure across the disk. I still get the central hot-spot. I did grab 20 stills in TIF form that I may see what I can do from a stacking perspective.

Nice image Rick, I would try it without any gain, middle over exposed. I would get the middle exposure right and then you can play with the processing later in PSP, Gimp, or in Faststone.

Agree, John... I played with gain up and down and the middle was always the hottest spot. I did manage to grab a few TIFs to play with processing, but I think you're right that they wont be as effective as images with the gain reduced - even tho that really drops off the limbs.

I really like how with the last one its much more even across the disc. I'm afraid that even if I lower gain, I will blow out the center.

Rick I don't have the original file, I lost a lot of files when one of the hdd's decided not to play ball anymore. I'll have a go at doing some more white light, was out today with the Quark first time since November

I have been looking at the Quark... I want a H-alpha solar scope that I can do video with. I've heard mixed results of the PST coming to focus and there are very few Lunts on the market.

The reason I went for the Quark is price really, example a Lunt 50 is nearly $1400 with a B600 blocking filter over here and in the states its $899. I bought the Quark for $1,170 which roughly in comparison with a 60 -80 solar scope, the only downside is the warm up time with the Quark. I really need a smaller scope to use with the Quark, at the moment I'm using my Ed80 and FR. I think you have to do a modification on the PST to get focus with a camera

It would go nicely with your new 152mm ES carbon fibre Seriously though ... Quark = me too Rick ... It's on my list of astro priorities. I like the idea of having yet another use for my ST80!!! Dang, that things been used for guiding, birding, camping trips, camera tripod work as lens for dslrs, AltAz mount work, StarAdventurer work, GEM work. It just keeps on giving! I hear the Quark has a larger 'sweet spot' than the PST and gives views right across the image as good as the more expensive specialty solar scopes. Also that the one tuned for showing surface features still shows great prominences too. Be nice to pick up a second hand one and give it a try. I'm retired though and saving for an Infinity ... so over to you to spend the bucks cheers Howie

I have the original Chromosphere Model, they have brought out two other models since then. As you can see from the image above the FOV with a Ed80, .5 FR. with the newer models you should be able to get a full disc. I've been told with the original a 62mm scope should be able to get a full disc so that's next on my shopping list.
