I love my Xterminator and think it is the best camera Mallincam has ever produced. The one thing I have noticed (really doesn't bother me) and it is hard to notice is the loss of color. It does not have as much color as some of the past cameras had, but you have to really look close to notice and have been a owner of past Mallincam products. You will not notice watching someone else broadcast. You have to own them to know this one folks. Some people might think this is not as good a camera. I think they would be wrong to think so. It has plenty of color and you no longer need a guide camera working for long integration. Long integration in most cases is no longer needed due to the ICX828 EXview HAD II chip. No guide camera makes for a simpler ( one less step ) set up to observe. I like that above all else. Personal taste thing.
One other thing I have noticed is the camera is not consistent across the board. Seems like the IXC828 chip is not the same for each camera. In other words, one camera works a little better than another. Now that is just my observed opinion , but so far it is what I have noticed. One camera may have a slight more detail and one may have a slight more color. In most cases I'm sure the type OTA is making a difference also for details, but colors should be about the same for all and it is not. Filters, and skies may affect the color some also and may contribute to that affect. Still it is something I have noticed. Does it hurt anything? NO !! Absolutely not. Your still viewing the object just fine and with no issues and in less integration time too.
It comes down to personal taste at this point. Some may like the simple set up the Xterminator can give you ( No Guide camera needed ) and some may want more than the camera can do. I find this to be the case with people more and more. They want a long exposure view with out the wait. Used correctly I think the Xterminator is a really great camera to use for live views and a fast set up. It will never be perfect for all users. Then again no camera is.
JUST MY 00.02 cents worth on the matter.

Thanks Jim, and I totally agree. My Xterminator cannot match the colour in my Xtreme. But I compensate by raising the saturation and carefully balance the Brightness/Contrast and Histogram until I like what I see. So, the Xterminator requires a bit more fiddling in the settings, but so what, the camera is fast! I want to Observe, not do imaging

I want to Observe, not do imaging Ken Thank you for such a good review. I'm like you . I'm out there to observe objects, not to image anything. Jim T.

What version of miloslick are you using? That was with the latest version as of the date I posted it on January 15th. It is version 3.1.2 There may be a new version by now. I haven't looked because I haven't used Miloslick for about a month.

Ken,
I am unable to view the video on any of my devices. I get an error saying "please sign in to view the video". Of course I am signed in or I couldn't post. Do you happen to have an external link to your video that I could use?
Thanks,
Glenn

Hello Ken, I'm new to both AstroVideo site and video astronomy. I have a used Xterminator and got the latest version of Miloslick. Since the manual for Miloslick is version 2 it does not directly relate to the version 3 software which has an all new 'look' and controls. Bill says a new manual is coming 'soon' but that's no help to me now. All the helpful videos I see online from experienced Miloslick users are using some rev of the version 2 software. For instance, I tried using the histogram function the other night using some version 2 online examples. But the v3 histogram controls are completely different and I can't even figure out how to adjust it.
I guess experienced Miloslick v2 users had no problems adjusting to the changes in v3. But without a manual or access to online demonstrations I'm wasting a lot of time trying to learn the software on my own. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can provide,
Tom

It's a trial and error thing until a manual is released. Annoying actually.
