Busy week for me... started going to unc John's jome village of twechar helping out my wee mate john teach folk from the village pipe band instruments, we are helping to teach pipes and drums on a tuesday night, no bass section pupils yet but carols son daniel is one of my pupils on the tenor drum, he will teach any who want to learn while I help john teach the chanter to his bagpiper students. . I learned a bit on the chanter before I had to give it up to tutor bass section ..so it will be the scale I will teach with a couple of grace notes.
it is armistice parade this sunday, been busy getting uniform all cleaned and polished up..practice went well last night..tenor drums all tuned up , bass drum needs retuned on sunday morning before parade..looking forward to this parade as ut will be my first parade wearing full number 1 uniform , no better feeling than playing at an armistice parade with a pipe band, when I played with Strathclyde fire and rescue grade4 pipe band we were asked to play at the armistice parade in Sunderland. . One of the largest outside of london, played alongside the rifles band and others fighter jet fly past ect..what an experience.
if wasn't with a band I marched alongside other members of the kilsyth British legion alas it closed down a few years ago and there were seven of us left to march in the parade.. very disappointing given that anyone can march to commemorate those who died in conflicts. I dare say the number will be down to a handful now. Luckily kilsyth has an army cadet detachment that makes up the parade with scouts, boys brigade, girls brigade and guides.
lest we forget.
