hi folks,i was out last friday and using the ed80 no reducer and i am of the opinion that i need the skywatcher ed80 0.85 focal reducer..using the finderscope i put the crosshairs on a bright star in a constelltion and adjusted it in conjunction with main scope view, the amount of stars visable in the main scope was a shock,,only had a couple of stars visable, compared to viewfinder.. question is folks how big a diff will this matched 0.85 reducer/field flatner make,/ok i know it will make it faster ect,,how much more wider will the view be compared to not using the focal reducer

Done a bit of testing tonight.. done at my flat..full moon and still having the man flu curse so took scope .qhy 5l 11 and 600d and up on the eq 3/2 . Tried diff variations linking the canon to the focal reducer with various extension tubes.. the fov with the reducer Is a big noticable difference on the moon so im quite happy..not massive but noticible lol.. linked the off axis guider into the system with the qhy and struggling to get the focal point. Getting fed up trying to get the right focal point with focal reducer to canon 600d and qhy on the off axis guider .looks like the new finder cope will be on order soon to split the systems.. canon on scope with matched focal reducer for astrophotography and ghy on New finder scope using new version of sharpcap on long exposure..

Davy did you get the parafocul ring with the QHY as that should help with getting focus?

Yeah came with the kit john, was losing the moon in my field of view from flat window, was chasing it for an hour..had not set up the eq mount was just using it as a tripod.. I need another adapter I think to get the focal length , what I have is.. ed80 to sw 0.85 reducer/flatner then I have off axis guider, then very short focal tube to t mount then dslr. On the off axis other port i have a focal tube with a 1.25 fitting to hold the qhy.. tried an extension tube and went to a c to t adapter.
Not one for the maths lol.. think there is a focal length of 50 odd mm I read somewhere that you need, kinda screws with your head bringing in focal reducers and off axis guiders..lol one for the tefal heads. I will just keeo throwing kit on and off till i get it..struggling with the weather as well.
Think the guider / finder scope may be the answer ..it should just be plug n play with the parafocal ring..

I had to get a adapter for the 9 x50 finder so I could get focus from Bern at Modern Astronomy. screw off the finder eyepiece and screw in the adapter and then had to remove the focus adjusting ring so you could wind the front lens all the way in

hi john...this is the one im going to go for. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Guide-Scope-Finder-Scope-50-mm-adjustable-Holder-for-Telescope-OR8891-/390500306616?hash=item5aeba1ceb8:m:mmZy9nr0XNy7-DRt8E2LXbAhopefully less hassle, over in flat just now, still trying out options in daylight,,not happening..software issues as well now,,have new version and older version of sharpcap and the older one was giving me an image,,tried lining up finder scope cross hairs to qhy on off axis guider ,,then canon to scope no bloomin anywhere near the focal point of qhy,,,aaaargh.

fed up messing around with the bits n bods I have, ordered a m48 to canon dslr adapter,i have the reversible m48 / t2 combo one already but the screws are seized so it will left as is,had already bought a t2 to m48 adapter so I don't need anything else for the canon to go straight on the focal reducer,, the off axis is a pain in the bottom,,if iset it up for the qhy,qhy at bottom of the off axis focal tube and using the scope focusserI can achieve an image, put the dslr on and it requires more inward travel,so kicking the off axis into touch, who can be bothered wae all that carry on,,its a hobby and its making me bald and crabbit today... more equipment in the mix more that goes wrong ,,,keep it simple
