Hello,
I have a skywatcher goto.
I've read that you can extend the cable.
I have plenty of cat6, I'm assuming if cat5 works this won't be an issue?
Which wires go where in the connectors?
Is there a limit to the length?

Hi for Skywatcher it's just the eight wires pin to pin matching at both ends. So a standard cat 6 lead bought anywhere will work. I bought a 10 meter lead off the bay for pounds and works fine with the controller.
There is a bit on the Beginers getting started sub forum with pics under cables if that helps.

Hi..I initially bought a 25mtr lead and works fine...I have an eq3/2..I have replaced hand set altogether with a eqtooth mod..its a box with a lead that plugs into the port the hand control plugs into..I then link it to my laptop and use the eqmod freeware software in conjunction with cartes de ciel freeware astronomy software..you are then ...wireless connected to your mount. .im sure you might be able to connect an az goto via stellarium....its a great piece of kit. ..davy

Yep, I have a 75' (25m) extension on mine made from cat5 cable. A mate fitted those crimped ends on it for me. Took him 2 minutes to make it. Doesn't seem to be any power loss over the 75 feet Nev, but I reckon at about 100' there would have to be a bit of voltage drop.

Made the cables. 25m lenght works well. Anyone looking for tools, I bought this off ebay. m.ebay.com.au/itm?itemId=400566437075The crimper importantly does 8p8c (rj45), 6p6c (rj12), 4p4c (rj9). The scope cable uses one 8p8c & 6p6c at each end, careful as the wiring change positions at each end. Connectors are $0.30 each and used cat5 cable (already owned). The SW Electric Focuser uses 4p4c at each end and have same wiring connection, thus using a flat 4core cable made the connection very very simple and easy. Connectors are $0.30 each and brought 4core cable for $0.50 per meter. The best tool in the kit was the yellow wire stripper!! Insert cable, spin stripper and job done, best one I've ever owned. The cable tester worked for the 4p4c cable by putting it in the 6p6c slot. Unfortunately the tester didnt work for 8p8c to 6p6c cable as the wiring changes postitions I guess. Worked for normal LAN cable as well as the other cable I made.
