Hi Rick, I have a question about your ZWO ASI120MC - are you using it to track? Thanks. --Ram Hi Ram, I am not yet using it to track/guide. I know it has the capability, but I have not got it going yet. I have two mounts, the Celestron AVX and a SynScan6 with an outdated hand controller with un-upgradable firmware. For the Celestron, I have gotten the StarSense apparatus that helps me get aligned and have decent go-tos. My success so far is just so-so, and I think I need to upgrade its firmware to get it spot on. My tale with the SynScan6 is one of much woe and frustration. My lack of clear nights has prevented me from working with ASCOM drivers and control to see if I can get the mount polar aligned, tracking accurately, and getting some GoTos at least thru software. Once I can workout my goto/alignment issues with either mount, I can move to the next step of guiding. Honestly, with my Jr Pro I haven't needed it for DSO... I have lower hanging fruit like a soup of hot pixels and challenges with integration times etc.

If you already have Windows emulation on your Mac to run the Mallincam software for the SkyRaider DS, then you are already almost there. As I understand it, the software will also handle guiding for the Mallincam SkyRaider AG - which will supposedly be less than $200.
I haven't asked Rock about this yet, but my concept is that you can have piggy-backed scopes (or your scope and a big finder) - your DS in the main scope and the AG in your guidescope/finder. Each has a USB cable that would plug into your laptop/computer/powered USB hub. You run one software for both functions and you're good to go. Very simple very easy. Again, this concept is from what I understand of what's been said so far on the Mallincam group, but I have not gotten this scenario specifically validated by Rock.

Oh and I think the software engineers are working on versions of the software for Mac/Linux, but there may be a lag in its release.

I'm looking to get a higher MP camera for guiding purposes and potentially planetary imaging. The QHY people have a 5mp guiding camera out also costing about $220... also I'm getting impatient waiting for the SR-DSc since I'm anxious to get started with imaging. I was wondering if Rick was trying to do the same thing...
Also I don't have Windows running on my Mac. I hope to use the SR-DSc on the Mac which I believe is being worked on.

Ram,
Personally, I'm not worried about imaging at the moment, but rather improving my live video broadcasts and outreach events.
I have a lot of warm pixels with my uncooled Jr Po that I just dont like. As the temperature goes up it starts to become a soup. I dont know why but it seems as if I have this problem much more than others who are broadcasting with this camera. I also have a desire to do B&W H-alpha shows, so I think my first will be the SR-DSm.
One thing that most folks may not have thought about is that mono cameras are more sensitive than the color ones. Thus, I am not sure what to expect of the SR-DSc... I'm anxious to see others broadcast either a prototype SR-DSc or the real deal before I make that decision.

Rick, Rock mentioned in the Yahoo! group that the colour images are as good (or even better, I forget), and I'm taking at him his word. I'm willing to take a risk... I've seen some colour images with that sensor elsewhere and they are good. I think the SR-DSc will be better than that because of the other nifty bells and whistles Rock has added in support of that sensor.
I wish I could help you with your warm pixel problems but from the broadcasts that Chris has made with the SR-DSm, I think that may be the solution.

I agree on both points Ram... If I jump in with both feet, I don't think I'll be able to sell my Jr so I dont know what I'd use it for.

. . . I'm getting impatient waiting for the SR-DSc since I'm anxious to get started with imaging. . . . --Ram Ram, the Skyraider series of cameras will be publicly available in 10 days. They are being released for sale at AstroCats Astronomy Fair in Canada on the 27th June. From that date onwards they are available to anyone to purchase. Not long to go now

Ram, I asked about this on the Yahoo Group and Rock responded this morning... it looks like we aren't 100% sure yet on if the two SkyRaiders will work in tandem on one laptop with the Mallincam software. Someone is beta testing this tho, so hopefully we will know more soon. Its exciting to be on the leading edge of product development/rollout! --Rick
