Hi all,
Looking for a new mount for my 110mm f7 apo. With vcam will weigh around 15-16 pounds. Want accurate goto/tracking in a fairly lightweight package. Will be used for imaging.
Trying to keep expense down to under $1000.00. Must be available in USA.
I have been trying to find a Skywatcher Az-eq 5 but I guess their not out yet. I don't have to have the AZ-EQ option, a straight EQ would be fine. This will be my grab and go scope so lightweight is a plus. Also reliability and bug free software.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Richard

Richard, I really like my Celestron AVX mount. I dont have an observatory, so I have to move the mount from my garage to my viewing spot every time. I have found that the AVX is solid and sturdy but not too heavy to move. I have also set it up in observing fields and parking lots for outreach events.
The tracking seems spot-on, when polar aligned. I have used the drift method to get it real close, but decided to get the Starsense accessory. I'll post more on it when it arrives and I'm able to get it going.
I also have an EQ6 (similar to the Atlas) and while it can carry more payload, it is MUCH heavier.

Tell me about it... I was showing it to Bill and somehow the peg had gotten unscrewed and I had to catch the mount head as it was falling off the tripod.

New mount arrived, after dark of coarse. Sent wrong cap screws for dovetail adapter needed metric. So beautiful clear night, scopeless mount. Typical:-( Set the VX up anyways, played with it some. Nice mount, though not crazy about all the plastic parts. Also no level on mount, off to the hardware store....

I use a small hand level... I had the StarSense arrive, so I am hoping for a clear night this weekend (over freezing too, please) so I can test it out. My understanding is that that my mount does not have to be level with the StarSense.
