They are only $99. You already have the other bits you need that come in the $169 version. If you use the Sammy you will already have a Video Grabber, nosepiece, 12v power supply and AV cable. And it is computer controllable. So you would only need a serial cable. Improvements over the Sammy 2000: - Long intergrations. The sammy can only do 8 seconds. - Has Ex-View II sensor (extremely sensitive) - Computer controllable - software written for it - Stacking Mode is standard for up to 85 seconds frame average on the fly plus a heap of other benefits over a Sammy that costs around the same price as the Micro, sometimes more. Have a look at the specs: www.mallincam.net/micro-ex.htmlIf this camera was available 4 years ago when I started Video I would have bought several of them

I bought a Micro Ex from Kahn in Canada.(I would have bought it from Jack Huerkamp but I got a bit confused about who could and who couldn't send it to Australia) In Australian dollars it was $187 plus a whopping $150 for shipping. If you want computer control there is a usb controller from Zengineering for $57 plus $19 for shipping USD. Jack Huercamp provides a wired remote with his $199 USD deal and I would highly recommend having a controller otherwise you are pressing buttons at the back of the camera. Astro video systems has the same camera called a Dobcam (which includes a wired remote) also for $199 USD .I am not sure what the shipping costs are from the US, but it would have to be cheaper than the way I did it from Canada A few months ago Shevill recommended AliExpress as a trusted site for good cheap gear. I cant find the actual post but ended up buying the Sony 960 H ExView HAD he recommended for $69 USD but this included shipping which makes it very good value. It appears to be the same camera as the Micro Ex but mine appears to be not as good quality video as the Micro Ex . This could easily be just problems with the user. I use the lightweight Micro Ex on my Meade LX90 8" when at dark sky nights with the Bendigo club. I use it with an eye piece on a flip mirror and the monitor is an Orion starshoot LCD-DVR which is all very transportable and I am not tripping over wires in the dark...but I do need to get a wired remote (This all very recent and I have done this a whopping 3 times). So there appear to be cheap options available and giving up the hobby might just require a rethink with a glass of red (from Bendigo of course). Paul

Wow Paul, Kahn certainly stung you!!!!
Jack sent my Xtreme from his shop in Louisiana and the freight was $11. It was a heavy package too. It contained the Xtreme, MFR-5, and 3 x 10 metre computer control cables plus all the cardboard packing.
Another risk with buying from the 2 shops in Canada (if you are not living in Canada) is that it voids the Warranty. Non-Canadian residents have to buy from Jack.
Phil, don't be discouraged by idiots in Cloudy Nights. That place has grown a massive bad reputation in many ways. Just stick here with us and the Mallincam Yahoo Group. There's no point in giving up on a great hobby over one twit.

$11.....I feel sick. I misread the Mallincam site thinking I could no longer buy through the US. I bought my Xtreme through Jack in 2013 . Jack couldn't understand how I could get it so wrong but got Rock to change the wording on his site anyway to accommodate those like me that have difficulty with plain English. Paul
