Hi Been busy getting all the bits together for my setup. This works brilliantly on my SCB-2000, as long as your camera has RS485 OSD control, and only £11 delivered! ULTRA PRO-ONE OSD/UTC CONTROLLERThese work great too. Although I got mine from a different seller. PAIR OF CCTV BNC VIDEO POWER BALUNI have stellarium controlling my mount via raspberry pi over wifi, I just need a 30m or so cat5 cable to link the baluns and I'm in business. I'm planning a completely lounge controlled setup and it's looking good sofa(r) Rich

That Remote Controller looks good Rich. I have read up about Baluns but I am still at a loss as to what they do, or why anyone would need one.

The cat5 cable is cheap, takes power and video signal, well shielded and will handle very long runs.

I use a couple of Baluns for my video signal for the scb2000. I have a cat5 cable to extend the controller for my skycam. It only needed 4 out of 8 wires so i cut a small hole in the cable and pulled 2 wires through and put a Balun on each end. I could use the other 2 remaining wire to power the cam but i just use the power tank for cameras. Heres a pic of how it looks.

That Remote Controller looks good Rich. I have read up about Baluns but I am still at a loss as to what they do, or why anyone would need one. There is a lot of info on baluns on the net and I agree Ken very confusing, heres my simple take on it, Our cameras use 75 Ohm impedence, coax for them is 75 Ohm so they match and get max signal transfer. Cat 5/6 is rated at around 100 Ohm impedence which is a mismatch. This can lead to ghosting problems etc. So the baluns match the cat 5/6 to the camera impedence ensuring max signal transfer and less interferance problems. On another note Coax is not balanced due to its make up and needs good outer shielding to reject problems where as a twisted pair of wires are balanced as they are the same length and make up and reject problems far better than coax as they can cancel it out. Also they are a handy way to connect to a BNC

Cat 5/6 cable is a very low cost and very effective way to transmit video over long distances. A Balun at each end of the Cat 5/6 cable with BNC connectors connects the video device at each end. used them a lot in various long run projects.

One of my many video cameras is a Bosch brand and one of its options when buying is to get the in video line controller. A software program interfaces with it and takes over from the 5-buttons on the back, (the OSD). Once you have used this sort of control, it is difficult to go back to the old push buttons. It was the only way I could use this pro camera on the one metre telescope at Mt Canopus, the camera assembly is accessed via a big scissor lift inside the dome, then the cables run into a heated control room.
This gives some idea of scale, the camera position is way up on the right.picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Sw30UFC3r8jxZWvbjmJDTNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlinkEven had my old Mallincam Hyper Plus on it in the past. picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KC3CiTcYkrqf0zhYkH96YdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlinkAlso a good use of Cat 5 cable and video powered baluns.

I bought the 25' cabling for my mallincam Xtreme from Zengineering. It comes with cat5 cabling with baluns to SVideo at both camera and TV ends. Although I am happy with the cabling,I must admit I see no difference to that from a single SVideo cable from camera to TV at the short distance in my Skyshed .My video skills are still pretty poor compared to what I see posted by you guys so my comparisons might not mean too much but my understanding is that the baluns are useful for cabling greater than 50 '

hi lolly..the cat 5/6 when used with baluns is said..the signal wont degrade over longer distance in ref to other cabling.
