Hi guys whats peoples thoughts on the best software to use to enable you to broadcast? As you know...we require some kind of software to capture your desktops screen so that NSN will work.... I know most people use webcammax or manycam. Both are free however both have a watermark logo on the screen unless you buy it. (Manycam version 4 the watermark cant be removed. So if your on version 3... DO NOT UPGRADE) Webcammax - $50 - Its on sale for $25 at the moment. Dunno if its always 'on sale' tho Manycam - $50 I bought webcammax...wasn't happy to see that the max resolution it does is only 640x480..... Even the free version of manycam does 1024x768. Here is both menus. My opinion so far after using manycam free version for so long then using webcammax paid version is...manycam is sooo much better! Much more options available. I don't claim to understand any of it but...wouldn't using webcammax to broadcast using say one of these SDI cams the guys are starting to use be pointless? As your only able to capture your screen in 640x480? Or am I talking mince?

Chris, you don't have to have a capture software program to broadcast on NSN. Most cameras can broadcast direct. It's only if you use Miloslick that you have to use a capture software program, and even that is changing with the trial of direct broadcast test being done at the moment in Miloslick.
I am unfamiliar with AstroLive (another program like Miloslick).
But back to your question, I am a user of the paid version of Webcammax.
It isn't strictly bound to 640x480 although that is the optimal size for Webcams which is what WebcamMax is made for. The Max resolution is 640 x 480 but you can grab the corner of the capture box and drag it to any shape and size you want. I usually leave it the same size as the Miloslick preview screen as it prevents pixelation. Also, it isn't worth going up to very large resolution sizes when NSN only has a selection of about 3 resolutions to choose from anyway. No matter what size you choose, you can still only broadcast it at NSN sizes. If you go too big you will lose the rest outside the NSN window.
You will find that 640x480 works best on NSN anyway.
I originally used Manycam but it took over my computer so I uninstalled it and paid to use WebcamMax, and love it.

Here are a few examples. I have this forum on full screen on one of my monitors. Webcammax I used the 'select window' option at 640x480. Webcammax I used the 'area' option at 640x480. Manycam I used the 'primary screen' option at 640x480. Manycam I used the 'area' option at 640x480 Manycam I used the 'primary window' option at 1024x768. Manycam i used the 'area' option at 1024x768.

The last 2 are much clearer I think. Also Ken NSN has high resolution options.

What I mean is that the PAL and NTSC settings fit with the cameras we use nicely. They work together. When HD broadcasting gets done the higher settings will be great to use. Also, look at the quality of the results between the WebcamMax and manycam images. Even at 640 x 480 the text in the Webcammax image is readable. The manycan isn't. Well, that's with my monitor

As I understand it, its needed for any program that embeds the video from the capture device into its program frame (including Miloslick).
I need one because I use FireCapture for my live preview feed from my ZWO ASI120MC.
I picked WebcamMax.

There is another one I saw being tested on NSN thats called Sparkosoft. It seemed to work ok, but I don't know much about it.

Splitcam is free and works well. No watermark or anything like that. It also will do high resolution up to 1080p, something webcammax can't do. I used to use webcammax, but now use splitcam.
