When I was playing with the bands,, I always got away with wearing my own cap badge, I wore the argyll and sutherland highlanders cap badge in memory of my grandfather on my dads side of the family, he was a tenor drummer with there regiment pipeband...one of my finest times playing was the first time in my home town armistice parade. .just felt right. .spun these feathers big time..showing off.. (Feathers are what the drum sticks were called in victorian times and you spin them on your hands ..called flourishing. .beat the drum with one stick and spin the drumstick to above your head in a backward rotation..a lot of techniques to learn on flourishing...ah the good days..walking about a true scotsman).

nice photos' Davy. Even though I'm a Sassenach [ what my Scottish mate from Glasgow mate use to call me ] I like the sounds of a pipe band.

Top Photos davy. Isn't it funny about upbringing. You all talk happily about Pipe Bands, bagpipes, and Tattoo. but I can't get interested in them, especially bagpipes But differences is what makes the world an interesting place

if I was given the option to see a normal traditional regiment band and a pipes & drums regiment band, it would be pipes and drums all the way.
and if you asked me why, I couldn't give you a logical answer, as i'm not musical or instrument minded, I've never tried to play any instrument.
I just put it down to what I think is the unique sounds they make. I like that snappy sound of the drums [ don't know what type of drum it is] just seems its matched nicely with the pipes. that's the best I can come up with.

Band supplies drums and if there flush you might get a set of sticks...have my own kilt outfit ect tenor sticks, bass drum beaters piping and drumming software...tuner and drum dial...even my own chanter when I was learning the pipes....band supplies uniform but I usually just use there kilt.
