the peltier cooling is not available till September, so I might hold off till then, was gonna go for the ZWO but these look like a good alternative, infinitive exposure to boot

Think I would go for the dearer model with the super had chip. I think the cheaper CMOS would be noisy for DSO work without the cooler.
Even at £250 it sounds good for unlimited exposure.

After last nights dismal attempt at Jupiter and Mars... I think I gotta invest in a decent cam for planets! The MCX is just not up to the job! ZWO is the front runner. Im yet to see a bad word said about it. And ive been a good boy and not bought anything recently so F it!

I can't get on there at the minute and I've been asking Jim for help. My password for some reason is no longer accepted!
Was Jupiter low? I have had amazing results on Jupiter and Mars with the £40 Sammy but also terrible results when Jupiter was low. I think there are more factors than just the camera. I was seeing the GRS live with the Sammy plus detail on Mars and that's not to be sniffed at Would love to see what the ZWO can do live though

Yeh man broadcast for a bit. Was the first time in a while. Hmmm that sounds odd. Is there no 'forgot password' option?
I just thought of something that has kinda shat on my plans with the ZWO... Can I use a cam like this with my DVR??

Hopefully Jim will sort soon as some clear nights are on the way!
Not sure about the ZWO, how does it connect USB? DVR is BNC.

Don't think they will work as far as I can see they convert BNC or rf to USB (like a frame grabber). You are wanting to convert USB to an rf signal which I dont think can be done also you would not be able to use the control software to operate the cam?

Cheers lads I guess its not possible to use with the dvr. I think I will get it anyway. There just seems to be sooooo many people have used / recommend / posted pics from this cam. It cant be bad! And with its reputation im sure wouldn't be hard to sell on at some point.

searched high and low and it looks like its got go through a pc. you can change analog [bnc] to digital [usb] but not the other way round.

The camera in the first link has the same sensor as one of the ZWO cameras, but has the added feature of Infinity length exposures. They are both basic Imaging cameras.

here's a comparison chart.
Ken you make a good point that these are imaging camera's . But technology is moving on and these type of camera's are slowly moving into video, [where we are discussing elsewhere] looks like the next evolution up from the humble webcam and such. What I'm looking for is better resolution for planetary and the ability to do some video on NSN with it. i can see in the near future these type of little camera's doing what the box camera's ie. AVS / Mallincam /PD/ mintron and others are doing now

Be interesting to see how it performs Chris. No reason why you can't use it on NSN. If it provides a continuous video stream of images there is no reason why you could not broadcast with it. I have used my DMK for lunar and jupiter.

I have used my DMK for lunar and jupiter. Get it on Tuesday... so first clear night after that i'll be on asking for help lol. One thing I'm hoping is with a barlow attached it can clear the fork mount without the need for a diagonal for a change
