I thought I would use a different thread on latest findings.
After months of bad weather I got a chance to get the scope out and give this cam a second outing. I was also going to put on a first live NSN show.
The first target was the moon to check everything was working. There was a bit of intererence consisting of small lines and patterns running through the screen. I suspect this was the power supply I used (different from first outing). The moon was not bad at all plenty of detail with solid tracking. At this stage I started up on NSN.
I then slew the scope over to Jupiter as the seeing was quite good and again all fine and good detail. I wasnt using a barlow so was small so didnt spend time on it.
The moon then left my view so it was DSO time and this is where the problems began.
First up was M82 as I hadnt caught the SN on my own cam yet. M82 came into view and the integration was bumped up to x512 and looked fine. A short time later I noticed star streaking and thought the mount was playing up. The scope was then moved to M81 again easily found and adjusted the integration and nothing was really changing image wise.
I then started to get random effects like black screen and no picture no matter what settings were used. So I removed my skyglow filter in case it had fogged up and no difference. I then moved to Mizer double to test and the stars appeared but not as bright as I would have expected. Another effect that happened was the picture went from reasonable to stepping its self up to bright white blow out even when the AGC was on low.
I finally sent the scope to M51. At this stage the integration just stopped working. If it wasnt a black screen it just turned red. When stars and M51 appeared it was like the integration was set to around x128 and would not change. The camera became unusable so I made my apologies to the patient crowd at NSN and finally gave up.
So what happened? Your guess is as good as mine, the temp had dropped to probably -2 or so, was the cpu failing due to cold?
Over all it appeared that although the OSD worked the CPU appeared to have stopped responding to its commands no matter what settings were used. Powering on and off made no difference. All in all not a good night.
I thought I would note this down for reference.
