My bad. I wish I could get my scope down to f2.25. Maybe I should invest in a better FR. Would a better FR have better quality? I have a 0.5x GSO, but the reducer sits closer to the chip than what it should to achieve the 0.5x. unfortunately with reflectors, its hard to reach focus with a reducer, you need to move the reducer a bit closer to the chip (short nosepiece) reducing the focal reduction factor. Maybe mallincams new DOB cam coming out soon would allow you to be more aggressive with your focal reduction, as the whole camera can slide into the focuser.

My FR is setup just as described. I've tried to add a 5mm spacer and the quality of the image drop considerably
I still had about 0.5 inches of inward focus left. The way i have it right now I have about 0.75 inches of inward focus.

The Astro video DSO-S is a dob vidcam that goes into a 2" focuser. That's the one I might get, but it may not work with most small aperture newts since they come with 1 1/2" focusers..

Oh so it only has a 1.25" focuser.
I have a 130mm f5 newt that im thinking of rebuilding and putting new spider and sec. mirror and putting a 2" focuser on it.

I've got a 130p @ F5 and just tried the Sammy in it, I can get focus to around 1.5 - 2 miles away but its almost all the way in. I can't try it any further because of the surrounding houses blocking my view. looks like it could do with a low profile focuser.
isn't that DSO-S just a Ln300 with the tripod mount underneath removed so it can slide into a 2'' focuser or diagonal ?

A newt is one choice, but how good would say an orion ST80 refractor work in VA ?? Or similar short fl refractor.

Just take a look at Ken's awesome images with his Mallencam Extreme... I think he runs that with an 80ED f/6ish refractor.
