So true Harry and Davy. I look at all my gear and add up the many thousands of dollars, and all the years to assemble this collection, and the time and effort in setting it all up. It has really taken many years, and many dollars! But now, for under a thousand dollars and a few minutes effort, people can do almost the same as me with all my fancy expensive gear and years of time These companies making the new range of 'Instant' Astro setups will have rocks in their heads if they don't jump on it and make slightly larger, but still portable, scopes with better cameras. People will pay if it looks good and gives instant gratification. I have just caught up on all the discussion. I am down at Torquay (Victorian Coast) at present with the SeeStar as my only scope. Last night was the only clear night we have had so far ,but was out with friends,so I missed the opportunity. They are a great grab and go scope . I agree that the scopes need to be larger with better cameras and this was a toe dip for zwo to see how the concept goes. They are still limited to 10 sec exposures on the alt /az . So the kits will be for the brighter objects . Once you want to see dim objects or galaxies, you need bigger, faster or longer or all 3 and it is back to the kits we are used to with Eq mounts and reduced portability. I have a friend who is dying of cancer. He has never been into astronomy but has been spending a lot of time lately on his porch looking up and enjoying the few clear skies. He is an engineer and tech savvy. I suggested his wife get him a SeeStar for Christmas. He is wrapped. Up and running straight away and doing stuff that has taken me years to learn. For people like Glenn, a big ,non portable fully automatic system that sits permanently at home under some sort of cover would also be ideal. Cost is no object for him In the meantime ,we still need our big heavy systems cheers Paul

Interesting to note that when Seestar is being viewed on an Android device it's easy to hit 'Cast' on the device to show the view on a TV I didnt know you could do that Ken. That is much needed. I tried viewing on an Ipad rather than my phone and was disappointed that screen size was still that of the phone. cheers Paul

Been thinking out the box again lol Years ago we spoke about vr goggles in astronomy. So I've looked into this again given the full functionality of the seestar app. a Bluetooth game pad could be linked to the phone and control the app.. but one problem may be ..that its not possible because phone is connected to seestar.. But if it is then vr could be a reality.. If that was too OTT. Then a clamp on Bluetooth controller to a tablet may be an option for cold fingers
