WOW Karl, that is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is the best video of the Moon I have ever seen from a Handicam, and I've seen a lot searching around in You Tube.
I didn't know you could fit an adaptor to the front of a handicam. Even zoomed way in the detail is incredible, not pixelated.

John, I just did a search for your camera to see how much they are, and I can't find any for sale anywhere in Australia. It is an old model? Are they expensive? I've never looked into using handicams.

There are 2 different cams being used here Ken. The handicam is the Panasonic, but the Sony DSC HX1 is a bridge camera. The better more impressive video capture was with the Sony. If the Sony could display live view on a monitor and have remote focusing and zoom, it could be fantastic for lunar.

Right we're all changing over to camcorders now.
Here is another clip, John from the video I took a while ago. The camera was my Sony DSC HX1 digital camera. This was connected to my old 8" dob. The image is shaky due to turbulence and me messing with the zoom and then refocusing. This was before I had a motor focuser! I also have a Sony HD camcorder that I can connect and both have excellent zoom too so it will be interesting to experiment with. I'm now trying to work out if there is a remote control for both cameras or some other way I can play with zoom remotely!! Make sure you watch this in HD on You Tube!
Wow thats just awesome!!!

So let me try get this right. Neither of those cameras have direct Live video to a PC?
That's what would interest me, if I could put up the live image on my laptop, catch it with Webcammax, then show it on NSN.

That's what would interest me, if I could put up the live image on my laptop, catch it with Webcammax, then show it on NSN. You could use this with a cctv camera www.ebay.com/itm/Cosmicar-Pentax-8-120mm-1-1-6-Motorized-Zoom-CCTV-Lens-H15ZME-5F-/200981906186?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item2ecb74830aThen get a 62mm filter to T thread adapter, and a t-thread eyepiece projection adapter. But it would get very long and heavy, LOL. Maybe this and a mini board camera would be light enough, Hmmm. Most handycams have video out. Mine has component HD out. And guess what, the MCV-1 grabber has component inputs So it could theoretically be broadcast on NSN live no problem. This really intrigues my diy mind. As I am designing a setup focused on the moon and planets. Time to hit up ebay and the drawing board. Dang you people cost me money! (Mods you may want to change this topic title, as its turned more into a moon video discussion than the good old tucam )

Yes you can broadcast with both of these cameras. I plugged them both into the grabber and had them up on Miloslick. The problem I have now is getting the right cable from outside to my office where the grabber is. I just tried it with my coax cable and no good so it must be a digital/analogue thingy!?!
I'll try and post some images later of the adapters and how I connect both to an eyepiece.

I have a feeling some serous Lunar work will be coming up and old family cams coming out of the loft I would broadcast tonight but need to rig a new cable. Coax is not working but would Cat5 do the job? I have some spare already wired in so just need to add sockets!

Hi Karl what are the camera outputs? HDMI, Comp video? Crikey I don't know both have the 3 phono plugs on the end. I'll see if I can work it out.

If they are phono it's comp video Karl Yeah it looks that way Carl, any ideas why it won't go down the coax?

I think we need a new topic for handycams and how to use them. This thread has got quite convoluted.

Yes Allan yes this one has become a tad random to the title. Folks to carry on the Home video cam/Handy cam subject which is very interesting! A thread in Video cameras would be better suited.
I started a thread in Video Camera Discussions to keep info easier to find on these cameras.

Is there any free software for stitching images together? I would like to do a mosaic of the moon and M42.
