That's gold prospecting weather Ken! Must be absolute bliss when there's less flies around! Sure is Harry. My son and a friend of ours are out there again tomorrow but I'm staying home this time. Too much to do around the house and I keep putting it off Time to catch up on stuff on our property while it's not baking hot It's that cold in Scotland,, I could have built a house and not broke sweat Ken 😂

am down the beach in Jan Juc on the Victorian Coast. As far as I can tell it is always cloudy Anyway, I have my portable setup which is the Navistar 72 ed and AZ-GTI, and ASIair. It will probably not be used. Have a happy new year everyone. 2021 is shaping up to be similar to 2020. Another advantage of living in Snake Valley, Ken......FREEDOM! cheers Paul Impression of Planet Proxima Centauri with New the stars, Centauri a and Centauri B - Information about Proxima Centauri. blogmedia.tech/proximacentauri.html

I can't leave home without the accepted reasons, but yes, I do have 3.5 acres to walk around, a Dam to keep prospecting in, and the Observatory/Club site up the back paddock to do Astronomy, so I suppose I have it better than most in the state.

I read this article about 3 months ago on another blog site which allowed comments, and I left a comment saying how badly it had been translated. "Surely someone could have correctly translated such an important research article. The subject matter is very interesting and important, but it's such a pity this article is awkward to read".

Back to getting the portable kit going again. From my last attempt with the skywatcher esprit ed80,, more top heavy than expected. So I bought the Williams optics zenithstar 61 doublet and the skywatcher ed50 guide scope,, So this is the basic look of the portable set up I've added the Canon 5d mk2 to the set up and used the skywatcher ed80 0.85 focal reducer flatner. Today the finder scope shoe arrived and I got it fitted to the Williams z61,, this is to hold the asiair Pro. Still got a few bits to get in order and start working out how to use the asiair Pro

Looks like a good setup davy, but is it still easily portable for going up and down all those stairs?

The tripod side I will keep in the car,, the seat altea I have has a decent boot,, Spare wheel section has a floor on top of it with dividing sections this is where I will keep the mount and tripod,, And of top that is another floor,, that is the floor section,,, so the kit is well out of harms way, The next step is breaking down the kit to carry down the stairs.
The Williams scope comes in a cracking padded bag rather than a solid case the skywatcher scopes comes with.
So will try and find a pelicase or buy new foam for the one I have

Pretty sophisticated portable setup Davy. Will you be guiding with the ASIair? cheers Paul

Too sophisticated for me just now Paul,, I hooked up the Canon dslr and the 178 and tried to get some daytime images.. Erm,,,, fell flat on my face,, not a clue what I'm doing,, never got one image from the dslr,, although I had the shutter clckig away till I repressed a button to stop it on the software, Guide camera 🚫 no image either but registers in the camera's available warns when I unplug one.
I unplugged the 178 and plugged it in to the laptop and used asi studio planetary mode and set the focus and set exposure and gain,, so camera is fine.
My thoughts are to go ahead with trying to master the dslr so the guide scope will not be used at first,, will learn to walk before running. Need to find tutorial on utube for doing dslr

As it was getting dark last night I decided to have another look through the scope,, I looked through the view finder,, camera switched off,, and I could see a cylinder of what I can only explain as faint light within the view I was getting, I'm wondering if the skywatcher focal reducer is causing this,, will need to look more into this, Can see me having to invest in the flat /focal adapter 😔

The costs are never ending Davy. I have next week off work, so I am taking the esprit 80 on the EQM35 with the ASIair pro as my portable setup. I gave it a test run last night but couldnt get the polar align and plate solver to work at all. It worked fine a week ago. So I connected up to sharpcap instead. Here is Horsehead on Esprit 80 and EQM35,zwo 183, 45s x 12,Apex 0.6 focal reducer. Image is too dim.Probably should have used the zwo 462 which is more sensitive cheers Paul

Thanks Ken. The original FITS image was 118meg compressed down to 1/2 meg for posting. So I suppose there was a lot of detail in the original as well. I dont know how to use photoshop. I did try startools and followed Carlos'(Elpajare) instructions but didnt have much success. Here is the original changed to 53meg tiff file in fitswork, then autostretched in astrotoaster and then compressed in jpeg compressor. ... too bright ,but does show the detail . I just pressed the autostretch button in Astrotoaster cheers Paul

LOL, never use 'Auto' anything. It doesn't give you any control. I managed to use your image even though it was only an 8 bit 500k Jpeg. The original Raw Tiff would come out far better.
It would be good if you were able to spend a couple of hours here while on your holiday.
