sooo astronomy target shooting model engineering 3D print plus endless new software introspection.... (bit like the astro software journey) could say this fits in with the mod eng, different tools.... golf! there, I said it. Cat. dunno if this is a hobby but it sure can eat up some time in life. Or maybe I'm just a pussy.

davy, I am just starting out in Tropical Freshwater fish. Never had them before. Only got Guppies at the moment. I have always been a Marine Fish fan. I hope one day to get back into Marine but getting the real seawater is hard now. It was easy when I lived 5 minutes from the beach. It's about an hour and a half now. I refuse to use commercial salt additive. I use real seawater and collect all sorts of saltwater creatures from the waters edge and throw them in with fish from the Great Barrier Reef and Indonesia, like Damsels, Clowns, Puffers, Cardinals, etc. I would scavenge from the rocks along the waters edge things like Starfish, sea snails, seahorses and little barnacles. Anything to make it more natural for the fish. An interesting side effect of Marine tanks is that they are self cleaning! I never cleaned mine for about 4 years. Cleaning them actually disturbs the natural reef lifecycle. The best part about Marine tanks is that you can throw in anything that lives in saltwater (except plants) and it will fit in perfectly. Even small sharks and jellyfish!

Totally agree,, about keeping it all as natural as possible,, my planted tank I did not need to clean the external filter for six months,, even then, I probably could have went a yer without cleaning, I had good few inches of aquatic soil, big bit of bog wood and a lot of plants,, the co yeast reactor made the plants grow great and the tank had it's own eci system,, grow light bulbs came on at dawn and off at dusk,, best tank ever,, if you keep the water bang on,, everything is great,, I done 25% water changes three weeks in a row then 50% on week four,, yet Again was just a routine I got into.. Miss my tank but a lot of work on this type of tank.

Always fancied marine fish but way too expensive here,, get it wrong and it can cost you a grand in lost fish nd inverts True davy, but it can be done for next to nothing in cost for a simple setup. If you live near the sea you simply get your water from there (no chemical costs), get your live rocks from there (no buying 'special' rocks from a pet shop), collect some sea snails, barnacles, and starfish from among the rocks at the waters edge, and that's all you need to get started. The only costs are: Tank, bottom filter, plastic plants and a heater. For fish, just get two or three cheap Marine fish. In the U.K you can get Clown fish for around £12, Seargent Majors for around £8 and Yellow Tail Azures for around £8. One of each is a nice selection. So even if ALL your fish died, you've only lost £28 in fish
