Wot no weekend prospecting? Looks like there will be some good drives out your way Ken with all that loose stone around. I noticed that one of the teams on Aussie Gold Hunters has changed to Garrett metal detectors, probably sponsored, but most on that programme use Minelab detectors.
My dog likes to help with the digging!

Harry, there is Gold everywhere around here. Even on my own property. We tested it Yes, a couple of people use Garrett detectors on the show. The show isn't sponsored by Garrett, it is actually sponsored by Minelab No, I haven't been out this weekend yet. We had to have an Astro Club Pow-wow today (Saturday), but I am going out again tomorrow

Here's an example of how much Gold is around here. My son Jake found this ripper today with his Minelab Goldmonster 1000. 19 grams, valued at $1,600 (5 cent piece used for size comparison)

Wow that is a beauty! And I thought you lived there because of a dark sky area.

My great great grandfather ,John, had a farm at Pitfield (just up the road from Ken) and my great grandfather ,Robert ,was born there in 1845 which was before the gold rush. They moved down to Camberdown in 1862 after things supposedly dried up. Still reckon after this lockdown is over Ken, there's going to be another gold rush in the area. Lots of pubs and lights and no more dark skies cheers Paul

I've even removed the hint of the location in this thread, just in case

Can't blame you for that either, very wise.
Do you know how the area where you live came to be called Snake Valley (apart from the obvious) Ken? ian

It has nothing to do with real 'snakes'. It is because the creek 'snakes' it's way through the 'valley'. The creek is very snake shaped (as most creeks are) The town's real original Aboriginal name is 'Nimbuk'.

Haha, ok well thats a simple enough answer! At my end; Tarurutangi, the name of the, I don't know, area I suppose, it's not a district or community but a location I think. Anyway, Ruru is the maori name for the native owl, a dinky guy about 160-180mm high and a lovely chocolate brown, pretty much; Tangi is a funeral or wake more like (I think....) so the name refers to "The death of the Ruru". Oh, he's also known as a "Morepork" to the colonials due to the sound of it's call. Kinda. You hear it, you'll know it.... cheers mate

They would pass for Lee Marvin and a young Clint Eastwood. Don't dig any tunnels under the bars & shops and you don't want any Long Horn cattle around either! Happy prospecting and stay safe.

It would be an Aussie version of course!
Can't even imagine how bad & hyped a Yank version of Aussie Gold Hunters or Outback Opal Hunters would be, yuk probably covers it.

The Aussie favourite meat pie is the Four and Twenty Pie which is mainly Buffalo meat Yum Yum

Been out many times since then Harry, including today, but I get so busy I forget to video. Yeah, I need to make another one to add to the collection I am also half way through editing a video I made of the making of my Camper trailer. I have a couple of my You Tube subscribers waiting for that one
