Ken, that was great! Loved the quiet background and birds. There was a ratchety cricket noise when you started the panning phase, what was that? Terrific hat by the way. very interesting, never heard of the term high-banking before but like Davey said; you've got the patience of a saint to go through that. Nice to see you've got some water and 7C! Here we think all Ozzie is baking hot. + nice to see the happy face behind the avatar. Cheers mate ian

I've had Gold Fever for as long as I can remember Totally illegal to use anything but hand tools in Australia for Gold prospecting. This is the only state that allows Highbanking. Other states are only allowed to pan, or sluice without any motorised pumps. And dredging is banned across the whole country. Metal detecting is allowed in all states.

Cheers mate ian The sound of quiet, and birds, and crickets, and frogs, and sheep, and horses is what makes living in the country so wonderful. Not cars, and traffic, and planes, and people. That ratchety cricket sound is little frogs in the dam. At night they are quite a racket! 'Highbanking' is the term given to sluicing up on dry land instead of sluicing with a sluice down in running water like a creek or river. 'High' up on the 'bank'. And any water source will do to pump water into the highbanker. Even a small puddle. In summer when there is no water out bush we take our own water out bush and recycle it with a pump. So, a Highbanker is really a sluice out of the water that needs to supply its own water source which is accomplished by pumping water to it instead of placing it in water. It's hard work but it's fun, and can be very rewarding

Loved the video Ken. Thanks for sharing that one. I've only ever done panning up here in Qld and for opals not gold. But I know there's quite a few up Kilcoy Gympie way still finding stuff. And back in my old stomping ground around Mt Morgan. And you intro, music, and overall editing is great. Puts my desktop captures and blabbing on to shame. What video edit software are you using?
cheers Howie

Thanks Ken, I shall try out the free trial. Cheers Howie Just be aware Howie, the Free version has a huge watermark right across the screen. The software is fun to play with but if you want to save it, it gets the watermark.

But the Gold is still here, in the whole district

Nice video Ken, we have been watching Aussie Gold Hunters, so we know a bit about the process. Minelab metal detectors are very good, I did some metal detecting back in the 70's and there was some discrimination back then but signals were not very reliable. Add the loose ring pulls from soft drink cans and you spent a lot of time digging up junk. I bought a Minelab detector recently and they are described as 'quiet'. I was really surprised at the Minelab detectors ability to ignore more of the junk. You still dig up some rubbish, but you don't have to do as much digging as in the past with the old type detectors. Found £2.71 & a 10 cent piece on a Norfolk beach, didn't find anything in my garden except pieces of iron ore.
Have fun, stay safe and keep the videos coming.

Cheers Harry. Minelab are very good but they are also overpriced! There is another manufacturer about 10 minutes from here that makes detectors in small numbers that are as good as Minelab GPX-5000 (proven in tests) but at about one third the price. But they only sell in Australia. www.qedmetaldetectors.com.au/

The QED detector looks good, but is out of my price range. I have the Minelab Xterra 705, I wasn't going to spend that much (approx 900 Aussie Dollars) but all the reviews I read said pay the extra for the 705 as the 505 wasn't that good. Pleased with my purchase, I also have this pinpointer metal detector - www.amazon.com.au/DR-%C3%96TEK-Waterproof-Pinpointer-Detector-Underwater/dp/B07DQJYRT1/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=dr+otek&qid=1589312857&sr=8-1I put my detector and headphones to one side as soon as I start digging, to avoid damage to them. The pinpointer has a LED light and vibrates when it finds something. It does not make any noise. Good luck with your prospecting & stay safe.

Harry, my 27 y.o son has the Xterra 705 and he uses it after he has swept an area with his GoldMonster. The Xterra 705 can't find the tiny gold that the Monster can but it can go slightly deeper. So he is covered both ways. My pinpointer is the 'Gold Digger' Land or Sea PinPointer. Works well. www.colonialmetaldetectors.com/land-and-sea-pinpointer.html
