Ian,I would not be able to polar align without Sharpcap or the ASiair. I was alt/az until then. Now I never use alt/az. Have an EQ6-R in the pod with the Rasa . It doesnt get moved so rarely have to polar align . That mount is great. It has a very accurate goto. My heq5 gets moved out of a shed every time so I have to polar align every time but it only takes 5 minutes with sharpcap........... well, after your comments re above, I just had to check it out. Had been chasing the star field with the Celestron altaz that comes with the 8"sct and thought I was more or less aligned with the poles. So finally pulled out my new-to-me GEM-dx and explored the world of polar aligning. So simple! Just followed the instructions (Sharpcap) and then finally my Mount was tracking. Definitely pointing somewhere different to where I thought I should be.Could also chase around the sky finding stuff from the handpad database. Would arrive just off target, only needing a short nudge to centre. This is great and a confidence boost to the task of finding hard to see fuzzies! Thanks for the nudge Paul
