Yeah Ken. I just cant get the detail with the lx90. Here is the same shot with the Rasa but at about 1 minute total exposure. This is 9sec x 7 . A lot of people seem to get a much less noisy image with a lot of stacks. I think this stack of 7 shows just as much detail with a bit more noise, but hardly worth the extra time. I think you once said you rarely did more than 10 stacks. cheers Paul

Paul, I actually prefer the look and detail in the first RASA pic. The second one seems to just blow out the Galaxy cores and still not add any further detail. It's a nice pic but I prefer the first one

I agree Ken. My point was the first was 5 minutes total and the second was 1 minute cheers Paul

Here is Leo Triplet again .This time with a 642 BP IR pass filter ,Imx432,Rasa 8 and the lights were on around the pod. 25sec x 8 25sec x 13 with the lights off. Hard to tell the difference.
It will be interesting to see how this filter goes on a moonlit night cheers Paul

Interesting test Paul. I have both pics open and flicking between the two I can't see any difference either. Maybe the Light OFF pic looks a tiny tiny fraction brighter but that could be my imagination, but probably because more frames were used It's a tiny difference if there is a difference at all.

lovely pics Paul. Like Ken, can't really tell any difference. possibly bit more grain in the lit one but also feel it's just imagination ! nice star shapes across the field too!
Hi Ken. Bit stormy here of late and getting cooler. No star gazing..... cheers

The scope was facing North at the Leo Triplet. The light is a 10w led which is on a shed wall behind the scope but facing North as well. So the scope was facing away from the light but the light is very bright. It will be interesting to see how the filter goes in a weeks time when the scope points north again with the moon close by. This filter cuts out the spectrum with wavelengths smaller than 642 (more blue). This allows the H alpha (656) through. Here is an image from Justin Lam on the light spectrums of various lights. I presume my shed light is a cool white LED and so the filter cuts out most of its light. A flourescent would be almost completely cut. Here is a the spectrum of moonlight.A lot more light is in the 642 and longer wavelength so I expect the filter to be not quite as effective. In fact the IR pass filters (742 and 807)are sold with the aim of moon and planetary imaging in very poor viewing conditions. However, these would cut out a lot of the moonlight. from reefs.com It was Jim Thompson who first alerted me to the fact that some people were having good success imaging galaxies with the IR pass filters with poor seeing conditions. I can only presume this is when the scope is pointed away from the moon. So I am interested to see how it goes with the scope pointed at the DSO with the moon in the vicinity cheers Paul

Oh Davey, such a naughty boy. Anyway back to the topic eh? I have to say that one of the things I like about the images posted is the guidance re processing levels and overall resulting look. I realise these are straight from the camera but they help me as a newby to be happy with my non-hubble looking results and just what is to be expected. At least, if the wind stops knocking my gear about. cheers ian
