OK, the Governments have shut most stuff down and wants us all to stay home.
No going for joy rides, no Restaurants, no church, no Gym, no Pubbing or Clubbing, etc etc.
Can't even stay home and watch the footy!!!!
So, for those of you that can't go to work, how are you going to fill your days and nights to save your mental health.
Gardening? Bike maintenance? Build an extension on your house?
Myself, I have our clubhouse and Observatory is up in my back paddock. So I spend a lot of time up there.
I also bought my home gym before they ran out of stock because I had a feeling my local Gym was going to get shut down. And it did.
Most online Sellers are now out of Gym equipment so I got mine just in time. I also have plenty of repairs to do: fix Ride-on Mower, fix fences, repairs around the house.
How are you going to stay sane for the next few weeks/months?

Daylight saving is near an end. The nights will be longer. It is Autumn in Bendigo and there are usually many nights with clear skies. Now ,let's see, there has got to be a hobby I can do at home with a glass of red that doesnt break any rules about social distancing. Hmmm cheers Paul

They say the skies are clearing up nicely all over the world with everyone staying home. Hopefully we'll all benefit from that.
The only bit of my reno which is left to do, is the laundry. But as I'm over 60 and at high risk, I'm staying home as much as possible. Meaning I can't get to Bunnings for laundry reno supplies anyhow. So been watching a bunch of Blu Rays and cleaning the house (so I must be bored!).
Last week I did some scope maintenance cleaning optics and collimation, etc . In the process I'm having another "affair" with my Star Adventurer! LOL. I used it a lot 18 months or so ago when my back injury flared up again. Very portable and simple to use. Lots of fun with it out the front and back of my place. Very light polluted, but I found during my cleanup process an old Baader Moon and Skyglow Neodymian LP filter (wondered where that sucker had gone!). Been having a blast using the SA + camera tripod + ASI224 uncooled through an Orion 50mm f/3 mini guidescope. Great combo that! 1.7 degree FOV. Sensitive sensor in a fast f/3 optic. Achromatic of course, being such a simple mini OTA ... basically a finderscope. But Ken's yellow #8 plus the Baader Neo Moon and Skyglow filter which is also UV/IR cut too, and it works a treat.
Cheers Howie

This time last year I got the SW az-gti because I had a broken wrist and couldnt use any heavy scopes. Now it is my grab and go scope ,but there is no go anywhere. Light pollution is not too bad at my place but certainly not like the Snake Valley site. Making the most of the Rasa and lx90 while I have the time. Have Optolong L enhance and the 642-IR pass filters I would like get used to, and the ASIair pro and the Astroberry. . I leave the HEQ5 outside my shed with a cover over it so I dont have to polar align every time I want to put the deforked lx90 8" on it. Hope the cover handles the bad weather ok. Certainly got a lot to do at home while I have a chance. I suspect that chance might be very short lived however. cheers Paul

They announced a shutdown here on Monday night. I don't think everybody has got used to the new rules though. Everywhere else that has shut down has seen some improvement in the amount of cases and deaths. I bought a Honda V30 Magna motorbike off Ebay Monday morning and was planning to pick it up today, had to shelve that idea until the restrictions are lifted. It is going to need a lot of work as it has been stood for nearly 30 years. Have been working in the garden, and I can still go out for a walk with my dog once a day. I retired last June and the dog is my walking partner as my wife can't walk very well. She has already been confined to our house as she is in her late 70's. She uses a mobilty scooter mainly and we have changed the car for a van that is converted with ramp for carrying the scooter around. Anyone who has a relative that is resisting having a mobilty scooter, try and persuade them to have one as they really are life changers, and being able to transport one around makes it even better. I didn't like the boot scooter, lifting it in and out of the car boot didn't do my back any good. They break down into 5/6 parts but the chassis/deck part is heavy and awkward to lift. The dogs name is Chow, he is a Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier crossbreed, and is 14 months old. I waited until I retired to have a dog because I don't think it is fair to leave a dog on it's own too much. We named him on the way home when we picked him up, I only said why don't we name him Chow after Chow Mein as a laugh but it has stuck. He is a very good dog, behaves OK most of the time and is very friendly with everyone. Doing some local Ham Radio, some operators are dusting off their radio's and coming back on air, welcome as it had got a bit quiet on the airwaves. Having trouble with the Astro gear for some reason I'm getting an in focus but dim image, and a bright out of focus image (white out) together, I've tried all the extension tubes and reducers with no luck. Image seems to be OK with an eyepiece. I'm going to change the scope as the focuser has a problem, will only adjust from one side, (Dual control side) the other knob has become disconnected. Still possible the Mallincam Extreme is at fault, need to do more investigation. Not very impressed with the SW Esprit, should have gone for the Williams Optics scope instead, the SW was better on paper but the quality should have been better at the price.
New comet due late May C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS), it is getting the usual hype, supposed to be a "very bright naked eye object. Or not." - cometchasing.skyhound.com/All the best to everyone and stay safe.

Here is an interesting idea to fight the covid spread by using UV in enclosed spaces. It is about 5 minutes into the video
cheers Paul

Very interesting Paul.
Lately I have read, or watched Videos, of about 80 or 90 different theories and solution to Covid-19. Most are ridiculous, some are sounding feasible.
Someone somewhere has to hit the jackpot . . . . pleeeeeease!

once upon a time [30 odd years ago] i worked in the water treatment industry and some utilities used uv fluorescent tubes to sterilise the outflow before it reached the rivers, the costs of replacing worn tubes, regular cleaning them when they clouded over, and electricity costs to run banks of them ,a power failure would allow untreated effluent to hit the river. all this possibly worked against their use. whereas the old fashioned use of aerobic bacteria and tubaflex worms operated 24/7,without the help of humans.

Mmmm, worms. Will one bucket-full do?
I have one of the small UV sterilising lamps and use occasionally. Think it's UVb. Use sparingly; the UV action generates Ozone, O3, super-oxygen to Kill the bugs..... Intense smell like at the beach etc. Intense UV, have to be careful in use. You might bleach the drapes, let's say.....

It needs to be UVc where penetrance is minimal and will only kill single cells .The researchers are suggesting an application for droplet spread in closed environments. UVb is harmful to humans.
Figures today in Victoria. We have had 1319 cases of which 1172 have recovered. 14 have died. That leaves 133 active cases in the State. It seems the Health Authorities are going for virus extinction in our state. If their objective was just to control the cluster outbreaks ,then they must be pretty close to that now. Hope the economy holds up in the meantime. cheers
