As with all endeavours $$$ play a big role in what you actually end up with to what you initially set out to achieve.... Please advise what your opinions are for the below compilation to cater for my visual and astronomy reasonably economically. Dont laugh.... 1. Video Astronomy : MallinCam MICRO Combo $599 US, Ioptron ZEQ25 GOTO EQ Mount $899 US + freight from US The Mallincam comes with a 6" Ritchey Chretien optical tube enhanced for video ccd work as well as the camera complete unit mallincam.tripod.com/id64.html2. Visual Astronomy : 12" Go-To Dobsonian Skywatcher $2,399 I could pickup myself in Sydney.... Around $4,000 for the lot but very appealing to quench the Cosmos. Do you think I am stark raving mad or what honestly Thanks Scott

If it was me, I would go this route: 1. VRC6 + Mallincam extreme $2100 or VRC6 + Mallincam Jr Pro $1100 2. Ioptron ZEQ25 GOTO EQ Mount $899 or Skywatcher heq5 for about $1200 3. 12" Skywatcher non-goto $999 But that's just me Whatever route you go, I would factor in the price of a good focal reducer! you will need it. For visual I would go with a non goto, you really need to learn the skies anyway Plus you can get some nicer video equipment..LOL

Could just spend it all on a video rig that would make you never want to do visual again!! Nah but seriously...have you considered just 1 setup that does both? Something like a 12" SCT and a 80mm APO piggybacking on top or side-by-side on they fancy mounts? Both could be used for either combination of video and visual. Also whats the used market down there like? I know 4k would go a looong way in the used market here in the uk.

In all seriousness, Video Astronomy - Mallincam VRC6 with included Micro, plus Mallincam Junior Pro, plus ED80 Refractor. That will give you two different scopes and 2 different cameras to use Simultaneously. Mount them both on either a HEQ5 (bare minimum), or if the budget allows, an EQ6. Visual Astronomy - 12" f5 Dobsonian from Andrews Communications in Sydney - Guan Sheng GS-980 12" f5 ASDX 300mm x 1500mm - $749-------------------------------------------- Price breakdown of Video set-up:VRC6 Micro Combo - VRC 6 Ritchey-Chretien optical tube, MALLINCAM MICRO Video CCD Camera complete with AC power supply, 25 feet video/power cable, 1.25" threaded eyepiece adapter: - $599 Mallincam Junior Pro with standard 1/2" ccd ceramic sensor (ICX418AKL Color) - $599.99 HEQ5PRO SynScan "Go-To" equatorial mount and tripod - $1199 AUD ( Andrews Comms, Sydney) or NEQ6PRO-W SynScan "Go-To" equatorial mount and tripod has a newly designed stepped wide/narrow dovetail head! - $1699 AUD (Andrews Comms, Sydney) Saxon ED80 - Astronomy Alive, Melbourne - $626 orSaxon ED80 - Andrews Comms, Sydney - $599 (if still available) You will also need a few other items like Tube rings and dovetail plate for the ED80, and a Focal reducer or make your own (or I could make one for you )
