NGC 1637 is relatively bright. Its 3' x 2' NNE-SSW halo contains a circular core with a stellar nucleus. A 13th magnitude star lies 2' NE of the center. The halo is unevenly bright with hints of spiral structure in the NE and SE portions. The core is moderately large but unevenly bright and has a stellar nucleus.
