If you ever have trouble trying to explain the problems of Light Pollution to anyone, including your local council, here's a great Video to show them:

Our local club used to have a dark sky site a half hour drive out of Bendigo and it was a bit like your skies Ken. I used to spend more time sitting on a chair and looking up at the Milky Way than I did viewing through a telescope. We no longer have that site . Our dark sky site is now the ASV site in Heathecote. It has a lot of good facilities but not that panoramic dark sky we used to have. I certainly miss it. For me, the other anti astronomy creation is daylight saving. It gets dark too late and past my bedtime. I wait all year for the clear skies and then cant take advantage of it.I am an early to bed ,early to rise sort of person and that doesnt fit with daylight saving. Last night was a very clear night. I had everything set up to view at about 2 am. Got up, looked ouside and it was beautiful and clear. Nah, back to bed. Have all this new equipment and am not putting it to use Have a few narrowband filters that I would like to try. It is not a solution for light pollution but at least gives us city folks a chance to exclude the light. cheers Paul

In bed before 9pm most nights shattered.. Lol the joys

Tried out the Optolong L enhance dual band light pollution filter last night. It was fairly dark with not a lot of light pollution but there was a lot of cirrus cloud about. I got sick of waiting for the right conditions so here is Carina neb . Esprit 80 ,ASI 294 ,7 x 43s stacked on sharpcap. No post processing. cheers Paul

That seems to have worked Paul. But we really need to see the same object on the same night, but without the filter, to compare.

This photo has a very large amount of information, a little post-processing can turn it into a great souvenir photo of a great night.
Ken is right when he says it would be good to compare with now without a filter.
Give Startools a chance and post the result, please!

Look what happens with 2 minutes of treatment. The detail you have achieved is incredible!
The filter is responsible for these blue and red colors, H alpha and Oxygen.
Without filter everything would look redder, but with fantastic details equally

That seems to have worked Paul. But we really need to see the same object on the same night, but without the filter, to compare. There have been a lot of nights lately where it is cloudy when I go to bed and pretty clear when I get up for a p in the middle of the night. I gave myself an hour only to try out the filter so thats my excuse. I have bought quite a lot of stuff over the last 12 months but dont seem to get the opportunity to use it. With summer and daylight saving ,I will have to toughen up and do the hobby in the middle of the night I have tried Startools a few times Carlos, and still struggling with it...but I will get there. cheers Paul
