Tried out the Bresser 102/460 for the first time tonight. It is short and stumpy just like the C6 sct and sits nicely on its alt/az mount. A light grab and go scope which suits me at the moment. The CA is significant but doesnt bother me much. Camera zwo 294, Altair .6 fr, Baader contrast booster, sharpcap 6x10 sec stack, Centaurus A Paul

It is small, I've just seen a picture of one in Stargazers L. next to a keyboard, it seems to have good reviews for bang for bucks. F4.5 is pretty fast.

The aim of the Bresser is a grab and go to throw in the car with the C6 which has hyperstar. The alt/az mount is pretty light and quick and easy to set up. My SW ED80 doesnt sit very well on the alt/az mount as it hits the base at relatively low altitudes. The shorter FL of the Bresser seems to be much better suited. Next clear night I will get Centaurus A on the C6 using the zwo 294. I think the C6 will give better images. I havent tried the 294 on the hyperstar for the C6 as yet. It is only meant for small sensors, but I guess as long as the DSO is centred, only the outer bits of the image will be cropped. Clear nights have been few and far between lately. Paul

No rain last night but clouded out,, didn't stop me doing a bit if testing.. Bad news is pc stick has went Pete tong ,, won't boot up windows and it won't do it after recovery option either,, used it twice,, very not chuffed. Been testing focal lengths with various options open to me in the ed80 with the new focuser. Now have the zwo 178 dialed in using the focal reducer. Have also got the filter wheel dialed in as well, Have put the hydrogen beta somewhere safe,, erm,, lost it🤔
So still getting a bit done regardless of the weather Using asicap for simplicity,, actually pretty good software

I suppose I have broken a lot of rules with this pic. I added a 0.6 FR and a Baader contrast booster. It is probably around F2.8 with a refractor .(astronomy net) The image is nothing to write home about but the exposures are 5 secs with a stack of 6 bin 2 using the zwo 294 . Should be an ok combo for my grab and go alt/az. cheers Paul

Nice Paul. Even though the Nebula itself looks faint, the image itself is very deep! Well done

I've seen this old post right now. I also have a Bresser 102/460 and it has a serious problem for photography, which is chromatic aberration, especially in O / A / B type stars. For visual or outreach it can serve. If you look at the photos of the colleague you can clearly see these aberrations in this type of stars.

I agree Carlos. The f4.5 Bresser shows a lot of CA at the best of times. I was experimenting with making it even faster by taking it down to f2.8 with results that would make most people cringe.I have posted a lot of pretty bad images in my time doing video astronomy mainly because I tend to try a lot of different things. You would have to admit however ,there is a lot of detail for 6x5sec exposures. cheers Paul

This telescope with a better glass would be very good, but it would also cost a lot more, haha
The problem with refractors is the price.
