Been a tad quiet on the forum lately due back stuffed and herniated discs gotten worse. The cold doing EAA just isn't helping, as well as lugging the gear, batteries, etc. Plus the twisting and turning and bending in setting it all up. So, health comes first and I will be listing all my kit on the Aussie IceInSpace classified ads if anyone is interested. Yup ... giving up astro I'll still drop into the forum occasionally to read how you are all going. Anyway, wanted to make a Windoze Wallpaper out of one of my images and choose an M42 from late last year. The frames were shot and originally processed live in-field using DSS/Astrotoaster EAA, and it looked great out there in the dark as a 9 minute EAA semi-live experience! But .... wanting the best for my wallpaper ... I put the stacked image through several 'goes' in Lightroom as a post-processing exercise. Turned out wonderfully. So just a reminder to all who do EAA to make sure you keep save/keep the raw frames when you do EAA just so as your processing skills, techniques and software improves, you can go back later on and have a second (or third or fourth) crack at them and surprise yourself! Details were my usual rig ... Full spectrum modded Canon 650d. Nine 60 second RAW frames at ISO800. Skywatcher 200p f/5 Newtonian on an HEQ5 PRO mount. Unguided. Mount fitted with Rowan belt drive.

Quite sad news Howie. It is always hard to give up what we enjoy. I know how you feel, I just recently had to sell my Harley due to finding it hard to ride these days. 42 years in the saddle and it's all gone now. And one of our club members, Wren, let me know 2 weeks ago he is selling all his gear and retiring from Astro also due to health. I think he said he is selling his gear through IIS also. I wish you well and look forward to occasional comments from you in here

Thanks Ken and Dave, for the kind words. I will certainly drop by and read up on the goings on. At daughters birthday bash last night, and with the lunar eclipse just happened, all were asking after if I'd got out there. They were surprised, but understood, why I didn't get out there. Thinking I might use some of the proceeds of sale of kit in a good pair of binoc's to use with my reclining chair, and as I cannot at the moment hold anything up at shoulder height without stabbing pains in the shoulders, try out one of those mirror things like those in the photo. It will at least get me out of the house!

Not a Harley, but my Brother In Law loved his old 1980 Ducati 850 race bike (one of only 60 brought into Oz) he always kept it in his homes entry foyer ever since he can no longer ride it. He started it up once ... what a hoot listening to it reverb around the house. Missus went nuts! LOL.

Sorry to hear about your health Howie. Your back must be very debilitating. I like to think as we get older EAA will still be a hobbie we can continue. Last month I had some major surgery and cant lift anything heavy for a few months yet. My 12" dob is out of bounds so I shouted myself a Bresser 102/460 which is really light and will put it on a light Alz/Az. I guess the gear we use most as time goes on will be the light stuff. There is a lot of heavy gear that will remain idle out there but cant bring myself to sell any of it. Best Wishes Howie Paul

The small'ish Bresser sounds great ... almost like a large camera lens so will be interesting to hear how it goes. Cheers

I have the star adventurer and I just use it with a DSLR just now and control the camera via the camfi unit,, not much more kit than binoculars on a tripod You never know davy ... I may not sell my SA because I was thinking about keeping on doing daytime photography and the SA can be turned on it's head (so to speak) and operate as a slow panning timelapse device. Panning while doing timelapse adds interest to the video. Cheers
