I used an RT224 and an RI224 with SharpCap about a year ago. I even posted it in CN that it worked about a year ago.

No worries Howie ,I have a design I am working on for my AZ GTi mount. I have a lathe and mill at home so I can give them a workout.

Just go with what you have and the RT software. I've used a UHC filter and liked it but as howie says you will need longer exposures which could be problematic with the alt-az mount. Maybe push the spacing on your focal reducer to get the FR down. We expect to see some shots next week! Edit. Your wedge might overcome the alt az mount issues. And if you want some cash there's someone on iceinspace after a UHC and O-III filter Well Chris , here's my first light pictures from a complete novice. The sky was unstable, and I discovered the limitations of the mount which I am working on at the moment. The pictures are just captures I took learning how to use the software. I'd like to give a big thanks to Howie. we went to a dark sky sight west of Brisbane last week and he gave me a really good demonstration of the principles of Video Astronomy . Now I'm hooked. Even better, my wife came outside for a look and said " Wow I might get into Astronomy if I don't have to squint into one of those eyepieces, now I know what I'm looking at". This morning at breakfast she said" will you be needing any more telescopes ?". Things are looking good

A man after my own heart,, will write in to call and bounce stuff off him,, the 500 mm lens I had looked at but it loses sharp focus due to the mirror on dslr ,,so no good for astronomy in my honest opinion,, was bidding on a large focal length lens two weeks ago but out bid in last seconds

Well Today I got myself An HEQ5 Mount from sirius Optics and an auto guider is on order. I'll be using my Celestron SE6 on the mount till I can get an F5 newtonian . Any opinions on the Bintel ,Skywatcher or Saxon Astrophotograpy short tube Newts 150mm or 200mm would be greatly appreciated.

I am certainly no expert on EQ mounts. I have a HEQ5 and found the Bintel 200 f4 newt just a bit too heavy . It is now mounted on a EQ6-R and tracks very well. I have a GSO 150 F4 newt which is a much smaller beast and is well suited to the HEQ5 . My Celestron SE6 with hyperstar is lighter than the GSO 150 F4 and sits well on the HEQ5 but doesn't produce any better images than it does on the alt/az mount. Paul

Hi Martin, You posted up some images from the RT224 before in this thread .... what tube were you using for those images? Were you using a reducer and of what size (0.63, 0.33, etc)? I'm more worried about image scale / magnification than balance

Paul Thanks Jaybee, I was wondering if that might be the case, I am considering a few options I don't know if I should get another focal reducer and stack them in the Celestron SE6 like this guy , or get a 150 F4 newt.

Martin,
Like Paul I do not get as sharp nor nice images with the 6SE I own.
If you want a loan of my GSO 6" f/4 send me a pm. My garage is like a freakin telescope shop mate! Having said that (Ie own lots of kit), 90% of the time I use the 8" f5 for EAA, and 10% of the time the ED80 and lately the rokinon 135mm f/2 lens. All on the HEQ5. All other stuff I really should sell before it rusts or no longer works! LOL
And in my desire to get into AP rather than EAA, it'll be the small ED80 and Rokinon lens I'll use if I want > 60 sec exposures. Not the 8" f/5 because it is just too heavy when fitted with a guidescope and guidecam on my HEQ5 PRO (which is a slightly heavier higher load capacity than the HEQ5 - non PRO - model). For instance ... the 8" f/5 with just a red dot finder and ASI224 as the EAA camera only just balances with both CW at bottom of shaft. If I replace the ASI224 with my DSLR as the EAA camera, I need an extension tube to balance it. And the CW's go even further down that ext tube if I then put 9x50 right angle finder on. And even further down yet again with the finderguider 9x50 with ASI224 mounted in that as a finder/guider. And the problem is, my alignments and goto's and tracking all get progressively worse as I add those things. Which is why I tend to setup without any finder on at all. And dont guide ... when doing EAA.
cheers and as the weather is looking freakin great ... let me know about the 6" GSO loan. Also happy to help you figure out setting up EQ mount if you have any troubles. BTW dont bother doing all the polar scope collimation and RA setting circle being last transit time of Venus BS in the HEQ5 manual ... the built in PA routine sorts all that out for you eazy peezy.

Thanks Howie, The HEQ5 is sill in its box , I would certainly like to try the 6" GSO f/4 as I think I will eventually put a 6" scope on the HEQ5, let me know when you are going out to the dam Again .
Cheers Martin

Three of my fellow SAS club members doing AP + me and another bloke doing EAA are heading out to Wyaralong on Saturday. You are welcome. But anytime over the next week is ok if the Weather holds (I can't believe I am saying this cos boy it looks good!)

Davy , How stable is the twin saddle . Is there any flexing with your newt, I was considering mounting my Celestron SE6 and a 60mm guidescope in a similar configuration,
