Thanks Ken! The camera manufacturer world is a very small and incestuous one. You think you are getting "brand X", which competes with "brand Y", but both are made by "brand Z" who also sells there own...

It's not just cameras.
ALL the ED80 Refractors sold by Saxon, Skywatcher, Orion, Southern Cross, etc are all the same scope, but painted different colours and different company names printed on them. Identical scopes all made by Synta.
Same with GSO Telescopes. The same scopes are sold under many names.
And it is the same with non-astro stuff too.

There is talk also that Meade and Celestron optics are the one and the same today. The automated polishing processes are so good today that hand finishing is not only not necessary, but the automated processes are faster and more accurate - I have not heard of dud optics from either Celestron or Meade over the last few years. So, these two firms are said to just contract out the manufacture of the optics. The optics manufacturing is undertaken by a specialised optics firm or firms in China who are able to knock them out faster, cheaper and more accurately. The HD-Edge and ACF lines of both of Meade and Celestron are too much the same to be different, and for both to pretty much come out with identical new optics at the same time is too much to be a coincidence.
Most mass produced optics are done this way. Even for Synta. Stands to reason that if someone else is specialised in manufacturing something that you would contract them to make a component for you if they can do it faster, better and cheaper. You just assemble what you want with the components. And as both Celestron and Meade are both Chinese owned and manufactured, also stands to reason that their manufacturing processes would have changed to improve efficiency and margins. The differences come from final model quality and branding. Corporate spin is the smokescreen.
Gosh, Meade and Celestron NEVER manufactured their own eyepieces. Yet somehow we forgive them for this but not for the optics in their scopes? Why not their scopes? We can't keep thinking about how things were 40 years ago. It would be foolish of them not to do this if someone else can do the same component job better, faster and cheaper.
We may knock the Chinese for producing cheap junk, but they are not only improving their skills, but in many instances excelling ours. Remember the expression "cheap Japanese junk"? Today we no longer associate Japanese made with junk...

I have posted photos of the 'Maxvision' factory that makes both Meade AND Celestron scopes. They are all clearly seen on the floor in the production room, along with other brands. I'll try find it. I posted it in here about a year ago and I think I might have also posted it in CN. EDIT - Found one of the photos of Maxvision in one of my old posts: HERE There's more out there on the net.
