So weather is,, well we all know I should have been a cloud and rain watcher rather than astronomer,, so to keep myself sane I start looking at making stuff or trying new stuff.
So new problem via the garage,, dpf ,,diesel particulate filter.. these are fitted on newer cars and they are a pain in the backside,, once they start getting a large soot content they should go into a regeneration mode and burn out the soot content, Unfortunately it doesn't always happen, strict procedures don't help and a lot don't regen. So what do we do.. take an up stream pipe of and spray in a foam cleaner and hopefully it breaks up the soot on a test drive,, if it doesn't work.. It remove dpf and send for cleaning,, and it's costly but cheaper than replacing a dpf £1000 for some.
So I have an idea, ultrasonic cleaning, I could buy a board and piezoelectric tool but I have seen homebrew jobs on utube where folk make a bath and secure a sander to it,, it creates an ultrasonic cleaning action with the water.
So if I can rig a sander via some home brew adapter I could strap it to a dpf and use the foam and create a dpf ultrasonic cleaner..
If it doesn't work I can make a bath and remove dpf and use an ammonia solution to clean dpf in the cleaning bath.
Think my boss will get me sectioned lol

Are you thinking of doing this for yourself at home, or for your boss at your work?

Can you not force it to regen thru OBD2 or pour some petrol in it and set it alight

Car coming back in today,, Mercedes.. I'm going to stick a pressure gauge on dpf sensor pipes and see if it shows a restriction,, it showed on life reading last week it was at 350% ,,then after it was cleaned with dpf cleaner foam and regen it was zero... we had a tech guy in as our Bosch Ltd would not regen it,, and we never knew how to,, I was on the sidelines for the job, the other mechanic was on the job,, got a funny feeling I'll inherit it today as I read up a lot on dpf technology at weekend... that's if I'm not helping rewire a Mercedes with a cherry picker on it for Glasgow airport.. busy today lol
