What the hell is boy racer exhaust bandage. If it holds in heat that must be a good thing.
When I Make mine I put 3-4layers of felt tape on the outside. And use aluminium tape on the inside. But some sort of exhaust take would be good as you can feel the heat coming through the felt tape.

Once it's all built I have a fluke meter with a temperature gauge I can test the temp setting of the band, can add a temp probe for aquarium ect to the set up to keep an eye things as well. Seemingly they draw about 7 amps cranked right up,, I'm hoping with the insulated exhaust bandage heat retention it can bring the amps down a bit for field use

That's the boy racer exhaust bandage arrived today,, it's about 2.5mm thick,,it's heavy duty and looks like it will do the job,, next up is cutting it to size and hopefully it won't fall apart, will need to get something to lay the nichrome wire on so it won't damage the telescope paint work.

Look at this on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201791145903Ordered aluminium sticky tape,, this will preserve the scope and help transfer the heat while the exhaust bandage with retain the heat, just need to build now

Aluminium is a good electrical conductor..... Sure is so I cover the nichrome wire in thin heatshrink. Then lay it on the aluminium tape.

I allow my Nichrome wire to lay directly against the Cloth tape with no other material. That way I know all the heat of the Nichrome is getting through to the Lens Cell. On the outer side I put a layer of cloth tape then several layers of Aluminium foil covered with more cloth tape. The foil is to reflect the heat back inwards towards the scope.

My thoughts we're to cut the tape to length and start from the middle and work it up to the end and loop it back to the other end then back to the start,, gentle loop so it heats the cable uniformly and no hot spots due to tight loops,, it will lay on sticky side
Then lay a second layer of tape will the be put on top of the nichrome wire sticky side up again, sandwiching the cable between the two, The exhaust bandage will be cut to size and then stuck to the sticky side of the tape,, So one side is the aluminium tape and the other is the exhaust bandage,, velcro will get added to the bandage to secure dew strap to scope
I'm starting at the e middle for two reasons. 1. The power lead to the strap can lay flat on the scope 2. Will make the velcro fastening strap fit better
