Thread to show off the new toys for astronomy.
I'm afraid you've already seen mine
I had my Christmas early due to being a tight ass Scotsman and being in the right place at the right time. I had got the second hand Skywatcher explorer 200pds second hand in mint condition and my second canon 450d modded camera and my new laptop,,so I think I done well,, I have my eye on a coma corrector for the sw explorer but a bit conflicted about getting it,, it corrects the coma but leaves a purple tinge,, hence getting my filter book 😃

Does everyone that uses the filter get the problem or just some, maybe they might have something amiss with their gear?

Yeah I like the fact I can only be hampered by my own imagination lol,, starting to get a bit of a collection of kit, screen printing is too much flaffing about,so put it on back burner,, custom design mugs are great,,can stick any logo, design or quote on them. Have two Ricoh printers for that and mug press ,a4 vinyl cutter and an engraving tool that lets me engrave trophy plate,a3 vinyl cutter, T-shirt press and baseball cap press,, got my one tonne arbour press delivered yesterday, uncle John going to convert it so I can put in leather stamping tools for doing leather belts,,this is to save hitting with a hammer all the time,,was doing carols nut in was the term she used,,,silent when the press is ready, lol, will order different stamps each week to build up a collection, ordered a Celtic knot design and an attacking eagle,, fancy fonts next, then I saw a fancy sun and moon one's that will make a nice astronomy themed belt.. looking forward to this,, all my retirement kit,,lol,, forward planning because the state pension when I retire will be crap.

Thanks Davy for sharing the information. I've also ordered 2 more Lunar observing books, The Hatfield Lunar Atlas by C Cook & The Moon and how to observe it by P Grego, recommended in the filters book. Didn't realise how to get the best out of Lunar observing, my approach has been a bit haphazard so far. The Moon is a friend and a nuisance, a friend when setting up equipment and in the sky during the day, and a nuisance when the full moon washes out other objects making them more difficult to see.

Hi harry,, I skipped a few pages here and there, its a very good book with a lot of info on how to go about imaging objects to get the best out of our captures, definitely a must have book in my opinion and can't wait to branch into using filters,i do have a UV/ir filter but didn't always use it as I was never looking for ,,, the perfect image,,, well we are doing video astronomy and it's all about the near live view,, but a lot has changed both with myself and my equipment, I bought a moon glow filter a few months ago but not had the opportunity to use it,,to be honest I misplaced it,, found now and hopefully can use and get a comparison on images took. I'm very interested in narrowband and how it works on video capture ,,for me anyway,,I know it's being done by video astronomers but I haven't found many images that relate to my kit. We have all seen the stunning images done in ap with narrowband filters,,but when you look at the exposure times it makes me shake my head in disbelief,, 57 hours of data,, I'd be happy with a few hours of clear skies,,57 hours would be like two years work for me. So I'm interested in trying to squeeze out as much detail as possible using narrowband filters but with video and stacking,,be interested in anybody doing or has tried it.
