It's typical Davy, this hobby can be extremely rewarding when it goes right but we can also go months without seeing diddly squat and that is beyond frustrating! Last night I had crystal clear skies but the wind was bad blowing the scope all over the place!! This was just torture and I'd have better off it was cloudy. At least I would not have had to set up, get teased for a bit and then pack up again with about 3 hours sleep left before getting up with the bambinos!!

Good idea Carl. If you go back to radio astronomy, the sun will go balistic and we will have loads of CME,s. This wouldn't do your hobby much good, but I'd have plenty to look at.

Aint that the truth! I'm either out with family, Its cloudy/Raining, Its too cold, I'm sick, or out of town. Finally a free weekend coming up and its supposed to rain all weekend. I'm about at wits end. Spent a small fortune on new equipment just to have it sit and collect dust. Its very frustrating! So I fell your pain!

uncle john here. cheer up guys, how about a diversion, condensation prevention. chris, you complained about your dew heater trying to heat the planet. the hubble and the iss. use insulation blankets to even out temperatures plus 200 to minus 200, to minimise structure expansion and contraction,[the concorde stretched 3 inches or more when it flew at mach 2]. i was thinking of a silvered blanket to retain the heat of the dew heater, a quick release unit with velcro straps. i think i've seen temperature control units for these heaters. i read somewhere that the optimum temp is 2 or 3 degrees above ambient temp to prevent dew forming on the optics. pop over units could cover your piggybacks ,[tea cosy]. the hot exhaust from your video cameras could be channeled to your lenses . now ,that would cause a riot at a star party.

I made all my own Heater straps from Nicrome wire, Gaffa tape, and a 12 volt power supply. Easy peasy (hmmmmm . . sounds like a tutorial on the way). And I have one of those 12 volt hair dryers too, just in case. Cost $5 at a car accessory shop
