Here's how M31 Andromeda Galaxy looks from down here in the southern parts of Australia. This is my attempt at M31 using a Meade SN10 Schmidt-Newtonian Astrograph on an EQ6 mount and slightly modified Mintron with Astronomik IR filter . . . at M31's highest Altitude here of a whopping 11 degrees and through dense Fog 30 seconds by a stack of 3. No post-processing. It does look better than this on a clear night, but this was first light for our new observatory and I didn't care how foggy it was

Great Ken
I tried it a month ago at a dark park near home. Disaster.
I thought it would be good as the park is on the edge of a north facing ridge and its bush for miles - the nearest place is Gosford 40km away. But it was right in the middle of the glow of gosford. So my shot was just a mush of orange.

Thanks Chris, yeah, it can be a tough one. I get a clear view of it way down here but I have a very low Northern horizon.

Yep. I take it the slab is now the observatory. Chris, those 2 slabs in the north are for people to set up their gear if they don't want to set up on grass. Also gives a good solid base for Imaging so tripod legs don't slowly sink into soft ground during hours of imaging. The slab on the right, in the south-east is where the Obs got built The Obs slab is actually facing East but due to the angle of the photo is looks in the south-east

Ah ha ! I didn't see the two slabs.
I'm inspired. Gonna get up to the park and have crack at it in a few weeks. Looks like its at its best for us now.

Would legs sinking into soft ground kinda act like dithering?

Would legs sinking into soft ground kinda act like dithering? Yes Howie, as long as you sink in circular motions
