I use one of those Skywatcher Electric Focusers davy. They are excellent. Except mine has Orion printed on it. Oh, and by the way, it's pitch dark here in Oz

Hows the speed on your electric focusser ,mines feels slow but nothing to compare it with,,being honest It probably is ok just me being impatient lol. Taped up two usb repeater cables and mount extension cable together to keep things tidy.all coming together now..probably get asolar filter to give me something to use it on.. and im just not a sun spotter,,lots of software practice from now on for hopefully nice dark cloud free astronomy for later in year

Yeah, they are pretty slow davy, but that is good. It helps to get focus more accurate than if it was zipping along It's even heaps slower when attached to a 10 to 1 Focuser. Takes about a week to move the focuser half an inch

Ken
Can you (or anyone - especially if home made) put up a pic or a link to how your focus motor attaches to the scope. I was going to cheap out and build one (I've got a little stepper motor sitting around from an old project). But not sure how to connect to focuser. A belt from the motor, or direct cogs ? And is it true that you are supposed to connect to the coarse (not the fine) focus ?

Hi chris, the focusser for the ed80 I have is made by skywatcher, basically the drive from the motor to the scope is an alloy barrel with allen grub screws that tighten down on to the shaft of the focusser drive and the motor spindle the body of the motor is held via bracket screwed to the focusser..I will post images up later.

Chris, the electric focuser we use has a flexible barrel that attaches to the motor on one end and to the focuser shaft at the other with Allen head Grub screws. That's the easy bit. Making the mounting bracket is the problem (well, it was in my case). Because I have 6 different telescopes that I use the electric focuser on I had to make 6 different brackets because no two scopes were the same and strangely, none of them use the bracket that came with the electric focuser I like Harry's idea above. I did something similar to focus 2 telescopes simultaneously with one motor: And yes, it is best to attach it to the course Focus shaft, not the fine focus. I have to use it on Fine focus on one of my scopes and it takes 3 years to go from fully 'in' to fully 'out'

Found the electric focusser in the flat all boxed away nicely,,not like me :-).. Had a think on it fitment to the ed80 and have decided against it,the ed80 is all set up nicely with byeos and slight tweeks on focusser would only be needed to refocus after changing target,so im going to fit the electric focusser to the st102,where i think it will be more used as the st102 will be used for different set ups, gave carol my canon 450d camera as it was sitting idle,I will get one of my 600d cameras modded for astronomy from this chap m.cheapastrophotography.vpweb.co.ukAnd keep my other as standard.

If I get mine converted it takes price right down to £75,which I think is brilliant, just ticking along with the mod and trying to spend sensibly.

Waiting on some advice on the modified cameras before going further on this..but confident all should be ok and adding certain clip filters will make it a pretty good camera for astronomy, the results with byeos are great using a full spectrum camera will be amazing im shure.

Yep, might as well get that moving. And if you get it back before the other stuff is ready, you can mess about with daytime full spectrum / IR photography.
