Thought I better start a thread, as I haven't done this before backyard eos, astro toaster, may as well share my woes and wahoo's. Outline, I want to use my canon 600d camera for video, but ive read its not bad on video mode but the route I want to look at is using backyard eos / astro toaster kind of thing and do near live video..can hear the sigh's already.lol. We to be honest by the time the light leaves x star and hits the mk1 eyeball were all doing near live.:-)
Equipment. Skywatcher all view mount Skywatcher ed80 telescope Skywatcher ed80 matched focal reducer/field flatner Canon 600d Panasonic cf19 toughbook Software Canon eos utilities, remote shooting to play around with camera to get a hang of things before moving onto, backyard eos, astro toaster.
I was using my toshiba laptop but I downloaded the canon utilities into this and im very pleased,,these laptops are built like tanks

Done a video cruise with the set up this morning, just to familiarize myself with the mount,I set the start point at one side of window and end at the other and set it up to do the cruise in five minutes, slighty notchy of that timescale,so I increased the time to forty minutes bit exaggerated but what a difference rock steady..cant find my camera to mount remote shutter cable, new one ordered, second dslr to laptop cable came today and hdmi camera cable ordered..next step is looking into backyard eos.

40 minutes! Wow, that's Slow. That would look good in stop motion animation.

Trying lots of things just to see the effects,I had it focused on a field in the hills across from my flat, its where they fly remote control plane's and helicopters.
Had really dense fog like clouds last couple of nights, but I managed to fire off a few images of the moon, via the remote tether to computer,I switched to video mode but results were poor due to the seeing conditions, the moon would wash out or be blanketed out by clouds, think on video mode you have to have really good seeing conditions.

Thats backyard eos downloaded into the toughbook..know I need to learn how to use it,lol. Messing around with it,it has nice features, red screen mode is a must have, I found out last night using eos utilities, big massive white screen totally does in your night vision.
Live view ,good no problems there.
Frame and focus, nice feature 5x button, this gets focus spot on.
Time to watch tutorials :-)

Is that your south sky? It looks like there's nothing out that way... any towns? or do you have dark skies that way - minus the light pollution from your city, of course?

Weather been poor and other things I had to sort out, Ten days of free trial left ,so ditched scope and mounted canon 600d to allview mount,,canon 75mm to 300mm zoom auto focus lens fitted. Few advantages using the lens..it can be focussed from byeos, various speeds. The planetry capture mode on default only gave about 15 seconds of video.this can be increased,,on planentry capture plan I increased the image count to 500 this gives you 30 seconds of avi video, you can also add to this by using the loop function,,set to two this then gives you two 30 second videos consisting of 500 frames..im liking this feature..so far im getting more impressed the more i use it. One thing I need to check out is on imaging section,I would like to image faster than one second exposure.. Hopefully I may get clear skies tonight
