When I use Virtualdub to make each frame a image from the AVI video. What is better bmp or png?
From what I've noticed is when I make some of the images png i get better results for some images and sometimes I get the opposite result compared to bmp.
What do yall use?

PNG is compressed lossless and BMP is uncompressed lossless. There is should be no visual difference. Only difference is file size. Given the choice I would choose PNG as it takes up less HD space.
Not sure why you are seeing a difference between the formats, as there should not be.
Could be something in the virtual dub converter, no idea about that.

Doing astrophotography with a dslr you use raw image and do your tweaking before going to jpeg because you loose some definition ect when it compresses to jpeg..not a fan of bmp would stick with png myself..davy

When I get a chance to get to the computer I'll post images showing differences that im getting from each file type.
Is there away to go from avi to tiff the way Virtualdub does it?

Good question Erik but I think Hemmi has nailed the difference between them. I have found even using DSS and Registax after Dub give different results. sometimes Reg better, sometimes DSS better. To keep things simple I just stick to BMP. Its still a dark art to me this processing

So far I've been making folder for bmp and png then compare the individual frames. I really wish I could do avi to tiff or capture all my frames in tiff.
