I'm trying to get the output from my new Revolution Imager camera to output in SharpCap using a USB Video Capture adapter. The video adapter is appearing as 'OEM device' in the Camera menu and when I connect the camera I get an increasing count of frames received in the status bar with 0 dropped and speed of 20 fps. Unfortunately I can't get a display - I'm just getting a black box. Setting LX mode has no effect. I'm new to video astrophotography so there's probably a simple solution but I'm puzzled and frustrated. Can anyone help ?

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I am assuming that your USB Video Capture adapter has two different inputs, a yellow composite input and a black S-Video input. The old SharpCap had a place you had to check to make sure that the correct input (Composite vs S-Video) was being read by the software, but I can't find it in the latest version that I just downloaded.
To do a quick test, I setup a cctv camera with a Diamond Video Capture dongle (my main capture device is a Mallincam). What I discovered was that the software defaults to PAL as the video standard and my camera is NTSC. I went to the Filter Options section in the Camera Control Panel and clicked on the Show Button. In the properties window that pops up, I changed my video standard to NTSC_M and my video window went from a black screen like you describe to live video.
If you have already tried this or if your camera is a PAL and its set to PAL then we can try to find another way to find the video input settings to check that its aligned with your input.
I hope this helps and gets you going!

Hi Rick
Thanks for your welcome and your response. I believe the RevolutionImager is PAL but I'll try what you suggested - it's worth a go. I downloaded the trial version of Miloslick yesterday and will give that a go later today. It looks more feature-rich and comprehensive than SharpCap with better user documentation. I've been in touch with Bill at Miloslick support and he thinks it should handle the RevolutionImager. He thinks my problem with SharpCap is that the wrong input channel is selected on the video digitizer (composite, s-video, etc.) but I can't see how to change it. By the way it's version 2.6.1893 that I'm using.
Cheers
Pete

Welcome to our Forum Pete Yes mate, the Revolution Imager works fine in Miloslick. That's the software I use when using the Revolution. This video of mine from the Revolution Imager is done using Miloslick: I found that all the Video capture software programs I have can capture all the cameras I have. For Video Astronomy I have: 2 Philips ToUcam webcams, a Samsung SCB-4000, Mallincam Xtreme, Mallincam Xterminator, 2 versions of the Revolution Imager, an old USB planetary camera and even my laptop in-built camera ALL the above cameras work well with these software programs: AmCap DSS Live Gstar-Ex Honestech Stephan LaLonde Mallincam Xtreme software Stephan LaLonde Mallincam Xterminator software Miloslick v2 Miloslick v3 I've tested all the above cameras in all the above programs, and they all work.

Ken and Rick
Many thanks for your help. I've sorted things out at last. I installed Miloslick and eventually saw some video appearing. The problem was that the camera settings were way out so the camera menu was hardly visible (I think the exposure was far too sort hence the black screen). I could just see enough to change the settings to sensible values (mainly 'Auto') and now bingo !! I then went back to SharpCap and that was fine also. I don't regret buying the Miloslick licence however as it seems to be much better documented and supported than SharpCap. Just need the British weather to improve now so I can go out and explore the cosmos in video.
Special thanks to you Ken for the magnificent Youtube guides which inspired me to branch out into video astronomy - I was even impressed with your vegetable patch ! Have had several years doing DSLR astrophotography but I couldn't resist video any longer and you've mad it look fun.
Cheers
Pete

Thanks for the positive comments on my Videos Pete. I'm glad I made them. They seem to be helping. My vegetable patch is totally overgrown now We are eating the food from it, and giving plenty away to family members and neighbours Talk about an abundance!! Glad to hear you got the camera/software problem sorted. And Yes, Miloslick is a great piece of software. Have fun with it (when you get clear skies)
