uncle john here, thanks for the encouragements guys, i had the seymore filter on the meade a couple of days ago, the sun is just skimming the horizon and chimney tops i got 10 minutes before it went behind a building. my eyepieces are basic ones that came with the scope and i'm still fumbling with them ,but i still picked up sun spots,i would'nt mind moving up to 2 inch meade 5000 series ,big chunky things that look the part.great.[i've not read any reviews on them] when i win the lottery ,i'll get a set. my main problem at the moment is a slipping clutch, the petersen clutch mod is being sold on e bay at the moment for about 30 pounds thats the next project. ps i,ll need to apologise for blaming the eyepieces instead of my lack of skill. any way ,finger out and get the scb 2000 of the top shelf , and go looking for c/t adapters. pps if you go to google and check- arnolfini wedding, by the dutch master jan van eyck, you'l see they have a seymore filter clone hanging on the wall, not bad for the 15th century.

Nice one john! Sounds cool. How much was the filter? Got a link? Mate dont buy the Meade 5000 they dont get a good name and the price is just stupid! If you are dead set on getting them then go for the 'fake' ones that are identical but unbranded and much cheaper. And never buy a full set! only ones you will use www.optical-systems.co.uk/maxvision-82deg-okular-18mm-p-25565.htmlI have a Meade 4000 14m UWA its 82 degrees like the 5000s and im not a big fan. Its like you need to turn your head to look at the other side lol. My advice on eyepieces... And i now have a pretty large selection (nothing stupid priced like TV and co..) is get these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25-25mm-BST-Explorer-Dual-ED-eyepiece-Branded-Starguider-/161144826675?pt=UK_Telescope_Eyepieces&hash=item2584faeb33They are just amazing in my opinion! i have the 25mm and the 12mm. For £50 each they are excellent value for money! Pin sharp stars with 60 degree view. And just work so well! No blackouts or anything just easy viewing! Having said all that... i only ever use the 12mm to align... then the camera goes in these days! Also i dont like the sound of your LX90's clutch slipping!!

uncle john here. thanks chris and johnno for info on bst eyepieces, i might cautiously move in that direction,[the boss, she's shouting in my ear -your buying whatttt !!!!!!!!] . somebody said i had aperture fever, now i've got eyepiece fever. chris ,i got the seymore solar filter on e bay for a bid of around 85 pounds ,it was classed as used, from ens optical, birmingham. perfect condition. lucky on bidding, dave says they are pricey. the slipping clutch problem- the petersen clutch modification seems to be the answer, i read somewhere that its similar to a cork gasket which gives a positive bind with light pressure on the thumbscrew. when i get around to buying it , i can then put the stilson pipe wrench back in the toolbox. and stop halfway through ballancing the piggyback add ons and have a cup of tea.

Nice one Uncle John! I had a look.. and they filters go for £200+ so sounds like a good deal you got. Get the sammy hooked up and take some captures ENS optical do seem good! Ive bought a couple of things from them now. They seems to have lots of good quality Meade items! Mate so far this year ive went from 'eyepiece fever' to 'aperture fever' to 'camera fever' lol. 4 scopes, about 15 eyepieces and 3 cameras so far
