In the search to improve my 'Live' viewing results, I switched from the ED80 and went back to my 120mm f/5 Achromat.
I have had reasonable results with the 120mm before but now that I have Miloslick software to help improve the 'Live' view I decided to give it another go.
Well, the results are remarkable. Miloslick has improved the image in leaps and bounds!
Because the scope is an Achromat, the bright stars are surrounded by bright Violet fringing which many people find annoying at least, distractingly ugly at worst.
I was in that boat for a few years, and that is why I switched to using my ED80 for the last 2+ years.
But I have woken up to myself and realised that it's not all about the stars and their false colour, it's about the extra aperture at the same focal length (both
are 600mm fl).
The 120mm brings out far more structure in Nebula and shows the faint arms in galaxies better than the ED80.
So, here I present my latest batch of Screen Grabs from my Live broadcast on the 20th January.
As usual, all are totally un-processed.
I also set Saturation to zero on some of them to bring out even more detail (a Mono sensor would show even more).
Mallincam Xtreme with standard sensor (Class 0), UV/IR filter, 0.58x FR, Saxon 120mm f/5 Achromat, EQ6 mount (no guiding).
AGC level 5.
CENTAURUS 'A' GALAXY
M83 (desaturated)
ROSETTE NEBULA
THOR'S HELMET
CARINA NEBULA
CARINA NEBULA (desaturated)
HORSEHEAD AND FLAME NEBULA
M42 ORION NEBULA
MARKARIANS CHAIN OF GALAXIES (desaturated)
SOMBRERO GALAXY (desaturated)
OMEGA CENTAURI
TARANTULA NEBULA AND SURROUNDS IN THE LMC
NOTE: These above 'Live' Screen Grabs suffer from Chromatic Aberration and Violet Fringing due to the telescope being an Achromat.
I posted another thread on how to eliminate both Chromatic Aberration and Violet Fringing in Achromats HERE
