There were a few threads on CN a while back where someone with an Alt/Az mount used a de-rotator with great success. Combined with the potential of larger framed cameras like the A7s, we may be able to start using larger aperture while keeping the AFOV similar to the often used format 1/2 chips. Any thoughts on this?

Curtis I had a quick look into this a while back, and was looking at a way of minimising field rotation with my mini tower pro
Using a de-rotator seems a quick and easy option to use but over double the price of a wedge but a lot easier than a wedge

Found a supplier in the UK, about £600 with a adapter or nearly $1000, I could buy a decent used eq mount for that money

So there is a size limit after which getting one of the better de-rotators does not make sense IMO. An EQ mount that can carry a 20" f/3 newt might be very large and expensive, and it's easily possible to go higher aperture. I wonder, what aperture keeps the AFOV the same, from the typical SCT/RC that is used with a 1/2 format chip to a larger Newt using a full frame chip?

Don't know if you've seen this Curtis but it looks like you can input the sensor's details into the software

Hi guys..this thread made me think of this question.
we have alway stuck with the theory , that because video is so much faster we dont require guiding. My question is ..in a video capture what is the longest single capture done and the most images stacked to make a single image .

Davy, since having the mcx cam I've been disappointed with my setup, I can't use the camera to its full potential due to field rotation. With having the Sammy @ 10 sec max exposure its good. that's why I'm looking into a wedge or if I can get my hands on a cheap de-rotator and guiding. I really don't wont to get rid of the MTP coz I like its simplicity of setting it up. if I could get 4 to 5 mins without rotation I will be more than happy with the scope and mount I have

John, have you tried raising the AGC really high to cut down exposure time, then stacking to reduce noise? sometimes that can help a lot. Also if your scope isn't large, then seriously consider a GEM mount instead (wedge will help a lot if there is one). IMO a derotator makes sense if for some reason a wedge or a GEM isn't practicle/available for whatever reason.

Curtis I've had the camera just over a month now and only managed two outings with it and they were short one's. Next time i'll use the MFR5 on the ED80 to speed it up a bit, but I've got a lot to learn with Miloslick as I've just been using the default settings which I think was AGC4 I think, the only thing I altered was the exposure times so there is room for improvement.
