Just had a look and apparently its going to be clear most of the night I have a cunning plan to try and see Jupiter! As you may or may not know my view of the night sky is limited to a SW to N view. Ive been desperate to grab a view of Orion and jupter. I have a tiny slot between my house and next door that allows me a view to the east but only like 2 meters wide. So i will go out as normal and look at my usual targets and a few new ones. But at about 3am im going to move my scope to the small gap in the houses and hopefully get in about jupiters face! Think Orion will still be too low for me to see it tho. I was going through stellarium for a while last night and ive come up with a list. So my hit list for tonight in order will be: M81 (new) M82 (new) M101 (new) M57 (Seen loads) M27 (Seen loads) C27 (Seen loads) C30 (Seen loads) C12 Fireworks Galaxy (Seen once with the sammy but very dim) C4 (Seen loads) M31 (Seen a couple of times) Triangulum galaxy (new) Then a bit later on... Jupiter through the small gap... i hope (First ever object i seen...only viewed through a 70mm cheapo refractor on a manual mount. The reason i got into astronomy) Will prob be using the scb2000 all night as i want to have a good play about with the settings now i have a hand controller and dont need to worry about messing up the image pressing the buttons

I hope so! The weather will no doubt kill my plans tho Yeh man i never ever use the etx. It got packed up the day i got the lx90 and has just been gathering dust in the spare room ever since. Thought about selling it but it will come in handy if i ever travel to a dark site i guess. Ohh random but i just seen Venus for the first time! Went out for a smoke in work and could see a really bright star near the sun setting. Checked the phone app and its Venus

Was crystal clear here tonight Used the scb2000 all night. Didn't manage all the list. Forgot about M101 and C12...was too tired for M31 and M33 fell asleep on the couch waiting on them. Done a very lazy attempt at jupiter before i packed up. Didnt align the scope. Still had the reducer on and didnt use a barlow. Just couldnt be bothered changing them about and refocusing etc was falling asleep. Could see the 4 moons no prob but couldnt see any detail tried various settings and shutter speeds but no joy. Really fun night tho! M82 is just stunning! Cant believe ive never looked at it before.

Hi Chris with Jupiter if your seeing the moons its being over exposed you need a faster shutter speed. I found when I tried it one shutter step was the difference between seeing the moons and the moons disappearing and Jupiter detail coming up. Glad you got a go at M82.

Even though its currently snowing and 100 mph wind flying about i just checked the weather for tonight and apparently its going to be clear all night....fingers crossed Ken random question.... how long does it take to get a channel on NSN? I MIGHT attempt a broadcast if everything is going well and i can get a channel in time.

Chris take a look at the site SAT 24 it gives you satellite near live sequences (use infrared at night) and you get a good idea if its going to clear or not:) Looking forward to Glasgow Skies
